Grade Level Performances

Due to the day before Thanksgiving being a half day, we are having to make somechanges to VIP/Grandparents Day. Our student performances this year will bespread throughout the year to give our students a more versatile performanceexperience. We welcome all parents, grandparents, and VIPs to come and enjoythese shows. These performances will be at 6:00pm on the Boon Stage on thefollowing dates:

Kinder and 1st: "Go Fish", the Musical, February 6th

2nd and 3rd: "World Cultures" performance, November 14th

College Colors Day

Friday, August 30 is National College ColorsDay. Celebrate the start of the 2019 CollegeFootball Season by sending your Boon Patriot toschool dressed in their favorite college colors,t-shirt, or jersey.

STEAM Night - September 5

All Boon families are invited to this freeevent.

Thursday, September 5, from 6-8pm thecafeteria, library, and gym will be packedwith parent and student interactive stations: Mathnasium math games, ErecksonRobotics, Destination Imagination info, ThinkFun STEM games, maker spaceschallenges, tessellation art, doodle bots, 3-D printers, battlebots, Keep AllenBeautiful, and more.

We'll also be selling ThinkFun games at half off MSRP, Boon spirit wear, snacks (bythe 6th grade).

There will be a PTA meeting in the Multi-Purpose Room at 5:30 pm.

Spencer Squire Book Drive

Spencer Squire lived each and everyday ofhis short life to the fullest. He taught us allhow to love learning, friends, sports, andfamily. As a Boon Kindergartner, he learnedto be a great reader, writer, and anincredible math student. Not only did he loveto read, but he enjoyed sharing his love ofbooks with others.

Please join in helping promote literacy! Spencer Squire 13th Annual All Star StoryTime Book Drive September 12, 2019. The Book Drive will kick off with our annualReading with the Eagles. Wear your favorite team jersey and bring a NEW or GENTLYUSED book for the Book Drive. Books will be collected September 12 throughSeptember 19. All donations will go to the Allen Community Outreach for holidaybags that will be distributed in December to under-privileged children in Allen.

Boon Environmental Club

Boon Elementary is proud to announce the 12th year ofour Environmental Club. The welfare of the environmentis extremely important and we believe that it is equallyimportant to educate our students about how they canimprove the quality of the environment.

If your child chooses to join the Boon EnvironmentalClub, they will not only learn how they can help, butthey will have the opportunity to directly impact theenvironment through many hands on activities in whichour club will participate. Any Boon student in 3rd - 6th grade can join theEnvironmental Club, by filling out the contract and returning it to your classroomteacher, or Mrs. Mitchell.

We Need You!

The Boon Elementary PTA is in need of volunteers to chair REFLECTIONS, CHILICOOK-OFF and PATRIOT POST.

Reflections Program

Boon proudly participates in the National PTA Reflections art program.This program allows all students to showcase their artistic talent indrawing/painting, photography, writing, dance choreography, musiccomposition, and videography. Selected students will have their artshowcased at the district level with the potential to move to the Stateand National levels. Last year, an AISD students' art made it all the wayto the National level!

We are looking for someone to promote this program at Boon, facilitatethe collection of entries, coordinate judging, and deliver winning entriesto the district level. This program requires about 10 hours inOctober/November - most of which can be done from home.

Chili Cook-Off

The Chili Cook-Off is a fun, family event that has been a tradition at Boon formany years. We are seeking a chairman(s) to facilitate the advertisement ofthe event, promote ticket sales, coordinate all volunteers, and lead thefestivities on the night of the event.

Patriot Post

The Patriot Post is a PTA-driven informational newsletter written in ConstantContact. Do you have experience with this program? Do you have similarexperience and some administrative skills? Do you want to be in-the-know aboutwhat's happening at Boon the week before it happens? This role is for you!

Attendance

As we begin our 2019-2020 school year, hereare a few notes regarding attendancenotification.

Please report if your child will be absent or lateby 8:30am via one of these 3 methods:

Call the Boon front office at 972-747-3331.Report the absence in Family Access.Or email Cathy Slagle, registrar/attendance.

All absences require a signed note from the guardian, a doctor's note, or an entry in

Family Access explaining the absence within 3 school days of the absence.

Tardies - Truancies

School begins at 7:45am and students are responsible for being in their classroomsat that time. Attendance is taken promptly in order for teachers to begin the daywith their students. Students who arrive after 7:45pm, will be considered tardyunless they arrived late due to a medical appointment with a doctor's note.

To ensure your student starts their day off well, please ensure they are at schooland in their classroom by 7:45am.

New Morning Procedures

Supervision for Elementary Campuses begins at 7:25. This week, students have hada choice of where they go before school from 7:25-7:40. They have the option ofgoing to the playground to play, the computer lab, the library, cafeteria forbreakfast, or to Mrs. Guest's classroom for homework help. At 7:40 we line them upand walk the students to class to meet their teachers at the door and start theirday off on the best foot possible.
