Volunteer Profile Lisa Faulkner
Where do you volunteer? NOW Group
What inspired you to get involved? I was interested in working with adults
with learning difficulties as a full time pro-fession. It also would give me the experi-ence to apply for other jobs in the future.
What does your volunteering involve?
I volunteer in Fandom and Job Club. I helped create an environment and or-chestrate activities to help adults with autism form social bonds and I helped
facilitate participants completing job appli-cations.
What do you enjoy most about
volunteering and what has been your highlight?
I enjoyed developing a positive space for the participants to gain social support and
support to keep positive during job searching.
Why would you encourage others to
become a Millennium Volunteer? It gave me the skills I needed to gain em-ployment as a job coach and helped in-
crease my confidence in my skills.

What employers say about volunteering...
Volunteering has a real impact on the creation of the student community.
Those that are involved enhance their student experience and feel they are truly part of something special. Volun-
teering offers people the chance to develop valuable employability skills, make new friends, learn new skills,
showcase a talent, or begin the jour-ney to a wonderful career, but most importantly, as a University that is
committed to impacting positively on the world around it, it allows our staff and students to make a difference.
Queen’s University Belfast
Job opportunities are relatively rare in our organization, but when they arise in the admin/events de-partment there are a lot of applica-
tions and event experience is something that really sets suc-cessful applicants out from the
rest. Programmes like Millennium Volunteers and other opportunities taken through Volunteer Now pro-
vide invaluable experience that can help young people stand out
and be successful in their applica-tions.
