Third HR Conclave of TIM points a more flexi‐talent future for HR th On 9 November,2016 the Institute witnessed and validated the passing out ceremony of the 20th batch of participants who completed their experiential learning episode. Dr Karthikeyan Gokula Chandran IPS ,Assistant Superintendent of Police, addressing the gathering, recollected his experience in passing out function and narrated how one should carry oneself alone after graduation. He stressed the importance of conceptual understanding which is fundamental in the application of learning. ProfAbul Karim Musaliar, Executive Director, TIM, reminded the young graduates to be courageous and to maintain one's individuality throughout life, Prof P Nizzar accented the importance of making a difference and Prof AM Salim, Founder Director and alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad, urged the graduates to lead a life of integrity till the end. The TIM Campus to Corporate (CaCo) Training Program and Alumni Boot Camp, 2016 brought together alumni, industry professionals, students, faculty and staff for an intensive and comprehensive six day training specially tailored st for participants of the 21 batch, aspiring for placements. The remarkable participation by the thirty Alumni Members from Leading Corporates were really thrilled to expose the participants to the world of business by throwing in lights at the entry level positions, skill sets required, opportunities and career growth ranging from telecommunications, media, banking, FMCG, Insurance, IT and Consultancy services was a great learning experience for the participants. Career celebration of the past students of TIM and their achievements are integral to the development of current participants. The programme was a milestone in the advancement of TIM vouching its professional presence across industries through a credible alumni network. Alumnus extends placementsTIM alumni and their influential positions have

always been a help for finding placements for the current participants. TIM Batch VIII alumnus

Mr.Ramesh K R, Centre Head, Future Pipes India, Chennai facilitated offer letters to six participants of

TIM batch 20. “I am sure these offers can continue the tradition of TIM alumni in strengthening the ties

with the current batch and batches yet to come”, said Mr. Ramesh in the function, who also made a

point in coming back to college every year and interact with the training requirements.

Econometric Models : FDP on ForecastingEconometrics provides vital inputs into decision‐

making for business, opined Dr Vijayamohanan Pillai, Associate Professor, Centre for Management

Development, Thiruvananthapuram. He was leading a session on econometric models and forecasting in

TIM, as part of Faculty Development Programme. The programme detailed the role, implication and

frameworks of econometrics in business and policy making. Tools like GRETI and its applications were

discussed with faculty members in detail. Call for Boosting Entrepreneurship

and Right Start‐upsStudent Chapter of QMA at TIM organized a talk on

“Entrepreneurship” where Mr PH Kurian IAS, Principal Secretary Revenue,Government of Kerala, highlighted the initiatives by the Govt of Kerala to

promote and empower budding entrepreneurs. He appreciated the initiative of TIM of setting up a

Business Incubation Centre in association with KSIDC to contribute to the cause of entrepreneurship

development in the state. 'R' for Responsibility in CSR; Not Charity

Whatever we enjoy in this wonderful world is a free gift of nature and one has to depend on others for

peaceful coexistence said Padmashri Dr Kurian John Melamparambil, Founder and Chief promoter, Melam Group of Companies. Corporate Social

Responsibility (CSR), he stressed, is not charity but social and moral obligation of each individual and

institution. Along with developing humanitarian perspective of life, Dr Kurian exhorted the

participants to imbibe 'possibility thinking' in addition to positive thinking. Dr Kurian John also

released the TIM–Code of Ethics by handing over a copy to Prof T Abdul Karim Musaliar, Executive

Director, TIM.Workshop of SEM

One day FDP on Structural Equation Modeling using SPSS AMOS was conducted by Prof Somasekharan

Pillai, Associate Professor & HOD ,Dept of Statistics, University College. The programme covered areas

like SEM, Path Analysis and confirmatory factor analysis using AMOS.

New solutions to enhance management of IPRTIM Research Conference on Trends in Innovation and

Management of Intellectual Property Rights became a hub of insights and platform of sharing on IPR. Inaugurating the second

TIM Research Conference, Dr Suresh Das, Principal Secretary, Science & Technology Department, Govt of Kerala pointed out that increasing awareness among entrepreneurs, students and researchers in India is crucial for the success of IPR protection

campaigns. In the highly competing globalised economy, patents are being filed by competing organizations with a strategic

intent. Unless innovations are patented, the benefits do not reach the innovators, he concluded. Selected national and

international research papers were presented at the Conference.

Path breaking offerings by entrepreneurs result in new employment avenues producing a cascading effect in the economy, contributing to better national income, spoke Shri Saji P Mathew, Deputy Director & Head, CII in the event. Mr Padmakumar,CMD ,Terumo Penpol talked about Entrepreneurial mindset. Mr. Madhu K G, Vice Chairman, CII & MD Ammini Energy Systems Pvt Ltd urged educational institutions to place great importance and value on closer interaction with industry and R&D organizations. TIM leads the way in the interface process.

Club Delights

Boundaries and Basics of Ethical PracticesSensitising the participants on Professional Ethics, Shri Sanjay Bhaskaran, ICT Advisor, Ministry of Telecommunications and Media, Republic of Nauru, advocated that managers being the real intermediaries between investors and profit are expected to professionally deal with business resources. Though ethical practices vary according to industry requirements, it is highly correlated to the personal value systems and ethical integrity of a person.

SPINZ 2016 :Annual Sports DayKRATOS,the Sports Club of TIM organized the annual sports day where four teams viz, Drucker Visionaries, Kotler Marketers ,Porter Forces and Prahlad Strategists tested their mettle against one another.The Executive Director inaugurated Spinz 2016 which comprised of both indoor and outdoor games.The day witnessed intense competition among the participants with Porter Forces grabbing the overall championship.

Banking on Digital Marketing: WorkshopTIM HR Forum –SYNERGY in its pursuit of bridging the Institute‐Industry gap, brought in Senior Managers in marketing from South Indian Bank who necessitated the importance of enhancing professional competence through personal development and growth. The Digital Thumbs –Up by the experts in Digital marketing presented a snapshot of the programme on Digitalization followed by a training on digital banking .

Blood Donation CampTIM Outreach organized Blood donation camp in association with IMA Blood Bank Society,Kollam and United Nations Academic Impact.Dr Anitha Balakrishnan ,Medical Officer,IMA, Blood Bank Society,Kollam addressed the audience on the importance of blood donation and the benefits of having a voluntary blood donor card.

Immersion Programme in MalaysiaA learning component integrated with the ever‐evolving academic fabric of TIM is Inter national Immersion Programme (IIP). Aimed at engaging directly with international business activity, IIP enables participants to explore, understand and embrace business across multi‐cultural and multi‐dimensional domains. Participants were able to familiarise the economic uncertainties by attending a session by Prof. Dr. Nazari on Global Debt Crisis at the University of Malaya. The factory visit to YAKULT helped the participants understand the corporate trends and responses. The contrasting architectural highlights of colonial edifices and modern skyscrapers presented an inlaid harmony of dichotomies. The day spent in Genting Highlands, the theme park, gifted unusual moments of merriment and jaunting the Genting skyway triggered the adrenaline and proved worthy.

Industrial visits in BangaloreTIM organised an industrial visit for 50 semester III participants to GP Foods, UNIBIC Biscuits India and Ostrich Mobility. The group was detailed on the company by the officials. They also answered the queries of the participants regarding different business matters, particularly on marketing and manufacturing. They were taken to the respective plants and facilities too.
