International lorry traffic continues to enter into Denmark. This is indicated in ITD’s border censuses of third quarter 2011. The lorry traffic indicates a seasonal decrease of 0.9 per cent compared to sec- ond quarter, but it is the lowest season- al fluctuation between second and third quarter since 2006, and traffic in third quarter 2011 is also 6.78 per cent over the level for the same quarter last year. A total of 4,729 lorries drove into Denmark per day in the third quarter of the year. In addition, the index indicates that the traffic with foreign lorries in Denmark is not increasing. On the contrary, the share of Danish registered lorries in traffic across the border has increased from 23.7 per cent in the second quarter to 26.4 per cent in the third quarter 2011. Further, the census of the third quarter shows, that an increasing number of foreign reg- istered lorries driving into the country are owned by Danish transport companies. Overall, more than every third foreign lorry driving into the country is owned by a Danish transport company, more specifi- cally 35 per cent, and this is the highest registered share ever. The growth in Danish owned lorries with foreign number plates seems to take place in Eastern Europe especially. The border census of third quarter indicates, that the share of Danish owned lorries registered in Eastern Europe has increased from 35 to 40 per cent compared to second quar- ter. Looking at the total traffic into the country the share of Eastern European registered lorries is relatively unchanged of 23.1 per cent compared to 23.4 per cent in the second quarter. Overall, the lorry traffic in 2011 is very similar to the development in 2007. The increase is mainly on the Danish border in South Jytland, while a slight decrease in the lorry traffic can be registered across the Fehmarn Belt and Øresund. Lorries into Denmark per day

ITD’s border censuses of the lorry traffic into Denmark indicate a slight decrease from second to third quar-ter, but an increase of 6.78 per cent compared to the same quarter last year.

International lorry traffic continues to enter into Denmark. This is indicated in ITD’s border censuses of third quarter 2011. The lorry traffic indicates a seasonal decrease of 0.9 per cent compared to sec-ond quarter, but it is the lowest season-al fluctuation between second and third quarter since 2006, and traffic in third quarter 2011 is also 6.78 per cent over the level for the same quarter last year. On the contrary, the share of Danish registered lorries in traffic across the border has increased from 23.7 per cent in the second quarter to 26.4 per cent in the third quarter 2011. Further, the census of the third quarter shows,

that an increasing number of foreign reg-istered lorries driving into the country are owned by Danish transport companies. Overall, more than every third foreign lorry driving into the country is owned by a Danish transport company, more specifi-cally 35 per cent, and this is the highest registered share ever. The growth in Danish owned lorries with foreign number plates seems to take place in Eastern Europe especially. Route distribution of lorry traffic in and out of Denmark (2nd quarter 2011)

MethodITD’s border censuses include lor-ries driving into Denmark across the Danish-German border and across the Øresund Bridge or using Scandlines A/S’ ferry routes. ITD records the number of lorries with a manual cen-

sus every quarter during a repre-sentative period totalling 24 hours. ITD’s border censuses indicate the very latest tendencies in international lorry traffic to and from Denmark. The statistics can be used with caution to

indicate export activities and busi-ness climate in Denmark. Read more about the method, and see back-ground tables on www.itd.dk under the menu “service”.
