The vision

• One stop shop for individuals, businesses and schools and community groups

• Local source of advice, information, education, training and support on all energy matters

• Promote renewable energy, energy conservation, carbon reduction, sustainability

• Develop and market the Scottish Borders as a green energy, low carbon area

How it would work

• As an independent organisation• THE centre for renewable energy, energy and carbon

reduction in the Borders• Deliver specific core services, others through partners• Act as an agency for other, particularly specialist, services • Develop BEA as a brand to promote recognition• Build strong community and partner relationships• Shop window for related products and technologies

Electricity in the BordersBorders Electrical Consumption[1]

The last available full year record is for 2008 and shows a total Borders area consumption of 50.7 ktoe (oil equivalent) = 633,749,998.23 kWh and 633,750.00 MWhBorders Generating OutputInstalled wind generation capacity is 487.50 MWAnnual theoretical generation - 24x365.25 4,273,425.00 MWhAnnual practical generation of 26% =1,111,090.50MWhThis indicates that already almost twice the amount of electricity consumed is generated within the Scottish Borders area.
