Borrina Mapaka’s Biography Zoom on Borrina & LongoBorrina Mapaka of his real name, he’s known professionally as Borrina Mapaka and Or Angel too. He is a complete ar-tist from The Kongo : author, composer, singer, guitarist, percussionist, actor, comedian, he is also an arranger, producer, dancer and choreographer.

Borrina – Dancer, choreographer He was the choreographer and dancer of Drums of Brazza for severeal years. Arrived in Paris in 1997 from Brazza, he became a dancer for Ebony Irene Tassembedo’s Company and he regulary organized dance workshops for ten years in USA.

Borrina - ProducerAfter produced, under his own label Borrina Records, a plethora of artists like Katherine Clark, Shake, Isaac James ... , he opened his own recording studio in Paris, Oza Studio.

Borrina / Or Angel – MusicianHe already has, as a solo artist, eleven albums that delivers us a mixed music, which mixes traditional African sonorities and afro-folk.With acoustic guitars and percussions, Borrina Mapaka sings in Lari, Lingala (and other dialects of his native land), French and English in a warm and vibrant voice about love, war, and the family left in the country. His tunes were distributed and enjoyed by radio stations from Athens to Tokyo, from Quebec City to Budapest, via Australia, China, Mayotte, Cameroon, Seychelles and Croatia. His album “Yula“ was featured on the playlist six months of the BBC and has earned an international world music award in Quebec. Recently, his CD “Marianne“ (3 tracks) is entered directly in the 15th position of the playlist of Francophonie Diffusion. In his album “The Forest Man“, he’s back in his African sonorities in their purest tradition and delivers us the message of a man concerned of the environmental risks related to deforestation. An album that rouses and touch both by its form and deepness.

In his new project “ Or Angel “, Borrina Mapaka let us discover a new universe of the artist. He talks about love, joy, and life with an original approach, on reggae music. In its new configuration, Borrina & Longo, he enlisted the talents of 7 artists from different backgrounds such as Hip-Hop, Reggae, Dub or the Jazz.This musical alchemy proves a formidable efficiency. It reveals a Borrina Mapaka in a more rhythmic and current style: the World beat and African Pop. The band’s first EP in 2012. Nach einer ersten Karriere als Tänzer und Choreograf hat sich der gebürtige

Kongolese Borrina Mapaka, 42, auch als Musiker und Sänger in der internati-

onalen afrikanischen Musik einen guten Namen gemacht. 1997 von Brazzavil-

le nach Paris gezogen, überführt er seine musikalischen Wurzeln mit einem tra-

di-modernen Hybrid tendenziell recht forsch in die Zukunt. Auf he Forest Man

verzichtet er dagegen weitgehend auf jegliche Annäherungen an die internatio-

nalen Mainstream-Hörgewohnheiten, namentlich das urbi wie orbi dominieren-

de, immer gleiche angloamerikanische Funky-Groove-Fundament. Aus gutem

Grund: Das Album ist als Appell konzipiert, die Rodung der Regenwälder im

Kongobecken und anderswo zu stoppen. Da darf es in der Tat auch nach Regen-

waldgesängen klingen – Pygmäengesängen, wie jedenfalls das Booklet vermel-

det. Und das tut es, wenn auch sicherlich immer noch behutsam für den west-

lichen Markt geglättet, betörend mehrstimmig gesungen, mitreißend poly-

rhythmisch und, durch den nahezu vollständigen Verzicht auf fette Bässe und

Druck aus dem Schlagzeug, so federleicht und transparent wie die Kalimba, die

das Klangbild immer wieder dominiert. Klarer, stetig tröpfelnder Regen. Erfri-
