In Biology & Chemistry I, students develop skills to ask and investigate testable questions.

This summer, Ezekiel Aidens, Jason Footes, and Wesley Glover participated in a computer science camp at the University of Pennsylvania.

Students in the Science of Health and Wellness class learn about sugar in the foods we eat.

Students visited Crystal Cave in November to learn about rock formations and geology as part of the monthly Science Excursions program.

Students in Biology & Chemistry II dig into the nature of science using models and analogies and answer the question “What is science?”

Keanan McDaniel currently works in a research lab at the Monell Chemical Senses Center as part of the Science Apprenticeship Program.

Students in Biology and Chemistry II create a model of the periodic table to study patterns related to the atomic radii of atoms.

Students in Physics class learn about motion using hands-on experimentation and Vernier data collection tools and software.

Students in Biology and Chemistry I learn about variables and experimentation using a pendulum lab.

Dr. Roy Wade speaks to students in the Science of Health and Wellness class about stress.

Teachers work with faculty at the University of Pennsylvania each month to strengthen teaching practices and learn about nanotechnology.

Students in Biology and Chemistry I study a fake crime scene to practice making observations and inferences.

This summer, Ms. Dessources participated in a neuroscience camp at the University of Pennsylvania thanks to a partnership with the Franklin Institute.

The NSBE Try-Math-a-Lon team placed third in the quiz bowl round at the Region II conference in Norfolk, VA.

Students in Biology and Chemistry I use forensic science as a framework to understand variables and data collection.

Students in the neuroscience elective class are convening for the first time this trimester to study emerging understanding of the brain.

This summer, Mr. Smith worked in a chemistry lab at the University of Pennsylvania, researching factors that affect protein folding.

Students learned about veterinary medicine and identifying a mentor from Dr. Keith Earle as part of the monthly Science Speaker Series.

Students in Biology and Chemistry II study the characteristics of different chemical bonds.

NSBE members learn about graphing motion at the University of Pennsylvania during a conference sponsored by engineering college students.

Students in Biology and Chemistry I practice making scientific measurements using proper tools and methods.

Students in Biology and Chemistry II use various models to learn about atoms and electron configurations.

Students learn about the physics of flight at the American Helicopter Museum as part of the monthly Science Excursions program.

Students conducted a study of the water in the Schuylkill River at Bartram’s Gardens as part of the Science Excursions program.

Mr. Meeks speaks to students in the Science of Health and Wellness class about goal setting and establishing a personal brand.

Students in Biology and Chemistry II perform an inquiry lab with copper and iron before learning about valence electrons.

Students learn about motion capture video systems and computers at the University of Pennsylvania as part of the Science Excursions program.

Each year, more than 200 students create independent science investigations and present their findings at the Science Symposium.

Juniors travel to the Community College of Philadelphia each month to perform science experiments with a chemistry professor.

Students in Biology & Chemistry II explore computer simulations to better make sense of size and scale of objects in the universe.

Seven students in the past two years have been selected to participate in the STEM Scholars program at the Franklin Institute.

Students design and program robots to compete in the US FIRST Tech Challenge.

Students visit laboratories at GlaxoSmithKline to learn about research used to develop pharmaceuticals.

Tyler Wright, Brendon Colteste, and Raleigh Russell are Karabots Junior Fellows at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, a pre-medical program for students.
