  • Exam times and structures for the final exam

After 11h00 we would like to give a choice to parents to pick up the learners, this would give them extra time at home to study and to be in a more conducive environment to learn. Parents will also have better control and time management of their childrens study preparation. When parents pick up their children at 11h00, a special concession will be made that they pick up their siblings at the same time so that it is not an inconvenience to the parents.

However we do understand that there are many parents who will not be able to make use of this opportunity and their children will have to remain at school, the following procedure has been set up for these learners.

    After exam procedure

    1) At 10h50, all learners will be sent back to their register classes where learners with permission slips will be sent to the gate at 11h00 and the other learners will be kept in class. Please return permission slip By Wednesday 4 November.

    2) At 11h20, all learners that have not yet been collected from the gate will be sent back to their register classes.

    3) At 11h30, learners will have second break.

    4) At 12h00, all learners will be divided into exam study sessions. Depending on numbers we will try to put no more than 15 learners into a class so that the learners are focused on studying. For various reasons, many of the learners are tired at this point and find it difficult to concentrate, therefore in the first 45 minutes of the session, if the learners do not want to study we will allow them to read a book or rest but the last hour of the day will be devoted to studying.

    5) The study session, will be an individual study session and learners will not be permitted to group study during this time learners will be encouraged to make notes, mind maps and revise work. This study session will on its own not be enough study time to prepare the learners for the next day and parents will still have to help their children study in the afternoon at home.

    6) All parents will be asked to pick up their children promptly before 14h00 to ensure that the learners get enough time to prepare at home for the next day.

Teaching hours will not be changed and teachers are still committed to looking after the students and will remain at school till 14h30. The concession for learners to leave at 11h00 will only be during the exam period from 9 November to 20 November, and from the 23 November regular school times will continue and the learners will return to classes as per normal.

    Exam procedure

    1) School will start normal time and learners will report to their register class teacher so that absentees can be recorded, doctors notes can be collected and money books can be completed. Learners will then move to exam venues.

Sick notes Absenteeism for exams Please note that learners who are absent for an exam have to provide the school with a doctors certificate on the day that they arrive back to school in order for them to write the exam. Teachers will then arrange a time for the learners who were absent, to write the paper on the day that they return.
