«Go down in history …: Valuable hints for writing notes»

By Gerhard Reichel, Institut für Rhetorik (Institute of Presentation Techniques), Forchheim

We’ve all been there: You visit a presenta-tion, seminar, or course, and a short time later you’ve forgotten the details. Not only does taking notes help you to refresh your memory later, it also allows you to absorb the structure and composition of the material. Taking notes promotes active listening and increases attentive-ness. But at a presentation, taking notes that will actually be useful later on is not always all that simple. In this paper, the author provides concrete instructions on taking good notes at presentations and seminars and also offers advice on how to use them. All you have to do is the writing.

Professional competence is tool sales and much moreOnce again, we are happy to note that the expectations and requirements of our customers have changed: In addition to our core skills in tools, they are increasingly expecting extended tool-related professional com-petence and services. This is es-pecially apparent in the factory equipment field, where custo-mers are looking for anything from customised tool sets to proposals for planning and equipping entire workshops. We are always happy to show what we can do!

Factory equipment planningWhen it comes to factory equipment, you are well advised to consult one of our specialists in the early stages of your project. We will help you analyse processes, available space, and lighting and then prepare a plan with several quotations based on this information. We have gathered experience that allows us to use the available space to your maximum advantage.

Tool insert planningIn addition to the tools themselves, appro-priate tool inserts for an efficient and clean operation are of great importance. This allows anyone to notice a missing tool at a glance, thus ensuring the workstation is left fully equipped and ready to use. Thanks to special software, we are able to design tool inserts according to your requirements and to manufacture them using water jet, milling, or foaming technologies.

Customised tool boxes / setsBrütsch/Rüegger has plenty of experience creating custom tool boxes, sets, etc. For the «packaging», we use our selection of cases and bags or find products suited to your re-quirements on the market.

Productivity has a name:

UNION TOOL is a Japanese company that has assumed a leading position as a manufacturer of milling cutters for tool and mould construc-tion. Their large selection includes the right tool for almost any complex application. This results in up to 255 different standard ver-sions for individual tool types. You can select the perfect length for optimum stability. The universal tools offer you incomparable added value: Thanks to the HARDMAX coating, tem-pered steel and copper can be processed with the same tool. This is a very attractive feature for tool and mould construction, since different tools are normally required for hard metal and

electrode processing. The UNION TOOL con-cept allows you to reduce warehousing costs as well as the level of complexity regarding the selection of tools for different applications by your machine operators. Improved durability and a higher-quality finish also help boost your productivity. Thanks to this technology, you can eliminate polishing and post-processing for your moulds.

We will gladly offer advice regarding your spe-cific application. Our application engineers will meet with you on-site in order to find the best solution (phone 044 736 63 63).

Cutting and drilling in one?Yes! With the new high-performance roughing cutter from UNION TOOL, type CZS, you can maximize infeed speeds on the Z-axis (BRW 222 280). The special transverse geome-try cleanly removes chips during vertical infeed. You can then cut full grooves up to 1 x D. The 0.5 mm increments in diameter are very valua-ble in this regard, since axis movement may be eliminated.

Cost-effectiveness in ALU!Another innovation in our FUTURO line: The cutting insert BRW 310 610 brings 2 more blades and improved productivity to the ma-nufacturing floor. It combines the advantages of positive and negative cutting inserts. The especially developed coating ensures fantastic durability. You should also test this cutting in-sert for your rough machining needs. You will be thrilled by the machining performance, pro-cess security and chip control!

FUTURO VHM engraving cutter! In our TOOLSHOP, you will find our latest VHM engraving cutters under the item numbers BRW 224 250 to BRW 224 257. Made in Switzer-land and designed for the watch making indus-try, these cutters either have a face or a radius. Other radii and faces are also available. Simply specify the radius, the face, or the desired an-gle and we will provide you with a competitive quote!

CR490 – Innovation from COROMANT!With four true cutting edges, this tool facili-tates extremely cost-effective machining. The calculation is simple: The cost of the cutting insert divided by 4 effective blades. Application as a standard tool for face and corner cutting is another advantage. In addition to reducing the effective cost per cutting edge, this also cuts down on the number of tools in your machine magazine.

Mix and match!Various connecting threads for the RENISHAW, TESA, LEITZ, DEA, JOHANSSON, WENZEL, FARO, and other measurement systems make selec-tion of the right sensor element a real chal-lenge! Enough already! Our sensor thread adapters (BRW 145 710 / www.brw.ch) facilitate almost any combination of sensor elements in a variety of sizes from different manufacturers. A small part with huge potential savings!

SWISS MADE precision!Classic WYLER levels (starting at BRW 117 110 / www.brw.ch) are simple, reliable, robust, and essential measuring tools even in the electro-nic age. These outstanding quality products in a variety of configurations, with a high level of accuracy, a range of sizes, with or without magnetic grip, and much more are available from stock.

Quality assurance begins with the selection of the right supplier! A well-known company in western Switzerland specialising in the pro-duction of tubes required a quality assurance verification system consisting of hand-held measurement equipment, links to the company network, and software to analyse and archive measurement data. As a strong partner and supplier, Brütsch/Rüegger assisted the company from the feasibility study all the way to emplo-yee training. Mitutoyo measurement equip-ment including MeasureLink statistics software (BRW 154 260 / www.brw.ch) brought quality assurance at the company right to the top! Dedication to researchApproximately one-third of 650 employees (400 in Haag) work in the engineering, re-search, and development departments. In addition to standard products, customer-spe-cific valves with high engineering demands are also produced.

Patented sealing technologiesVAT has developed and patented popular sealing technologies. The MONOVAT product line offers sealing systems with extremely low particle abrasion during opening and closing.

Production: Personal responsibility At VAT, production is divided into machined parts, welded parts, vulcanising, and assem-bly cells. Each cell is responsible for purcha-sing, manufacturing, initial sample inspec-tion, process control, and cost monitoring.

A typical task for Brütsch/Rüeg-ger equipment specialistsMany production and assembly processes at VAT require clean room conditions. Emplo-yees normally wear protective suits, gloves, and hairnets. Early in 2008, Brütsch/Rüegger supplied customised assembly carts for all VAT service centres around the world. Tool inserts with extremely low particle abrasion were required for the individual drawers. Ultimately, a type of extremely abrasion-resistant white plastic met customer require-ments. The inserts were milled and fitted into the drawers after assembly.

Consistent use of the TOOLSHOP www.brw.ch The head of strategic purchasing at VAT recognised the potential of the Brütsch/Rüegger TOOLSHOP www.brw.ch early on. Ordering directly from the supplier’s shop reduces time-consuming master data entry in the in-house ERP system to zero. Emphasis is placed on personal responsibility and trust in employees. If you would like to learn more about VAT, take a look at their homepage www.vat.ch!

Vacuum environments are increa-singly required for the production of high-tech products in research and industry. Modern industrial vacuums reach 10-7 mbar, which means that, in theory, only a sin-gle molecule of air can be found every few centimetres. While this is unimaginably «empty», it cre-ates ideal conditions for top-qua-lity products in the semiconduc-tor, nanotechnology, and coating technology fields. VAT vacuum valves ensure that the vacuum re-quired for a production chamber is reached quickly and can also be eliminated rapidly after the pro-cess is complete. Angle, gate, transfer, and control valves are all used for this purpose.

Global leaderVAT offers a selection of more than 1000 standard valves around the world.
