    can be. Submit activity summaries,

    ATTENTION COLORGUARD!

    There is practice every Thursday

from 5-7pm at Brackett airfield un-

less directed otherwise. If you have

    any questions, contact your flight

    sergeants for details.

The cadets departed from Brackett at

8am for an Aerospace Education day

    at Whiteman Airport. The cadets

were divided into flights and spent the

    morning in aerospace classes. They

    also showed the Disney movie,

    Victory Through Airpower,giving the

cadets a background the history of

flight and the military. Outside, the

squadron had a runway station where

the senior members taught the cadets

    everything about air traffic control,

and how to approach and depart.

After Col. John Jays safety briefing

and the classes, five pilots took every-

one up on Orientation Flights. Every

cadet was able to fly, many for the

    first time! The afternoon concluded

With a rocket launchinggame and a jeopardy style

quiz on the insignias of the

    different ranks.

    ROCstock is an annual

    event where people of all

ages are invited to build and

    launch rockets. The week-

end of June 6th, cadets from

    Squadron 64 loaded up the

    RVs and their rockets and

    went out to Lucerne Dry

    Lake Bed. Many of the

    cadets were working on

    requirements for their

    Pocket Rockets. Almost

    every rocket launch was a

    success, including Senior

    Member Kunch and the

    inaugural launch of

    Captain Krunch.After

    hours of assembling and

    launching rockets,

    cadets participated in a

    flag retirement

    ceremony. Following the

    ceremony, the cadets

had a movie night and a

    late night game of TA.

    ROCstock at Lucerne Dry Lake

Camping Boot Camp and Beach Weekend

    ceremony and helped

    with squadron chores

    before leaving for the

    beach. Ten cadets

    and three

seniors piled in thevans and caravanned

    to Bolsa Chica State

    beach for a day of

    playing in the ocean,

    digging trenches, and

    cooking meals over the

    fire. The weekend

    focused on basic

    Camping skills as well

    as meal preparation,

    teamwork, and bonding

    with other cadets. The

    sunburns were well

    worth it!

    Cadets and seniors arrived

    at headquarters on Fri-

    dayJune 22 to learn camp-

    ing basics in preparation

    for the Table Mountain

Bivuoac this month. Ca-dets learned how to set up

    tents, and were divided

    into cooking groups for

    meal preparation. Cadets

    prepared a wonderful meal

    and assisted with clean up.

    After dinner, Lt Hillman

    took everyone on a night

    hike and taught the cadets

    about astronomy. The

    hike was followed by

    laughs and smores around

    the campfire. Early the

    next morning, the cadets

    participated in the flag

    O flag of our Union,

    To you we'll be true,

    To your red and white

    stripes,

    And your stars on the

    blue;

    The emblem of freedom,

    The symbol of right,

    We children salute you,

    O flag fair and bright!

    Aerospace Article of the Month

This Monday, China's ShenzhouIXspacecraft successfully docked with itsorbiting space module, letting a crew of three"taikonauts" board the space lab for the firsttime. The docking and entry into the spacelab was a matter of intense national pride, and the government televised all the proce-

dures at the Tiangong Imodule, a name thatmeans "heavenly palace." The crew includedChina's first female taikonaut Liu Yang, a pi-lot from the Chinese Air Force.

Before her name was announcedthere were some bizarre statements fromChinese space experts about the criteria forselecting China's first space-going woman;they declared that she must be married, have given birth naturally, and have no scarsor body odor The orbiting module is only

about 10 meters long by 3 across, and is in-tended as a precursor to a larger space sta-tion that is scheduled to be launched in threesections beginning around 2020.
