Music

From Mr. Dyke:L.O. Listen with attention to detail – Think of describing words for music. We have been learning to sing a song in music lessons all about winter weather called “The Giant’s Garden” and playing rhythms of the words, “No you can’t come in here, ‘cause I’m here!”. Now listen to some famous music about weather and nature called “The 4 Seasons” by Vivaldi. As you listen to each piece of music, try to guess which season the music is representing without looking at the screen (it will tell you somewhere) – SPRING, SUMMER, AUTUMN or WINTER. Why? Now check to see if you were right. What is it in the music that makes you think that? Eg “The delicate violin reminds me of plants starting to grow in the Spring.” Listen to the whole piece of music – it is quite long and covers all the seasons. The music changes all the time. It is sometimes light and soft, sometimes bright and happy, sometimes cold and unsettling sounding. Take a piece of paper (or do this electronically), put a heading “Vivaldi - the 4 seasons”, add your name, class and date and write down/type as many describing words for each of the 4 seasons as you can think of, just like the words above in purple. Draw/add electronically images to show the seasons. Think about the presentation and be creative – eg divide your page into 4 quarters. GOOD LUCK!...(the next step is to start to create your own piece of music based on the seasons.)
