card

sAt the end of the project, I had four tarot cards showcasing my design style. While it was only four out of the twenty-two cards, this shows my direction for a far larger project in the future.Solution

To begin, I needed to do research on these tarot cards and un-derstand the meaning behind them. This allowed me to gain ideas and find important elements in each card that i could include in my version. My research allowed me to also decide on a design style. These tarot cards would be in a digital collage style, which would weirdly combine images together. Most of the images would be in black and white, while images in the back would be blue and orange.

objective

Software

For this project, we were asked to come up with a project which matched our style. This concept was already challenging since there are so many projects and ideas that can be done, making it challenging to choose. Although with lots of research I was able to decide on my project, designing my own tarot cards. More spe-cifically, cards from the Major Arcana deck.

Typography is very important. it’s the best way to communicate with whoever looks at your work. So, the best thing you can do is learn to manipulate it as well as easily read. Before start-ing, make sure you are on the Type Tool (T)

Warp type

Typography

Font size – The size of characters using point, 72 points is equal to one inch. For the body para-graph its best to use 8 – 12 point and for headline 18 point and up

Kerning – The spacing between two charac-ters, it’s used for letters that have too much space in between them. Some kerning pairs are Wa, Ya, Aw, AT, Ty, To, Fa, Fe, Fo, LV, LW

Tracking – The spacing between all characters

Leading – The space between each line of text

This isn’t all you can do. You can also edit that you choose to write

1

2

Select Type Tool (T) and make sure you’re on the layer with the text

In the options bar, click on the T on a tiny hill, here you can choose the look of the text you want.

Text on a path or a shape

Smart objects are a great thing to use when working on big projects with multiple files. It allows you to work on images no matter when they were edited. For example, when enlarging an image that isn’t a smart object, Photoshop will add pixels to the image by sampling it, which makes the image lose detail. For a smart object, no pixels will be dam-aged or changed.

Although not al all tools work on a smart object. Such as the paint brush, clone stamp, heal-ing brush, eraser, blur, dodge and burn, etc. To use them you can muct work on a new blank layer (Folded paper at the bottom right).

Make sure that in the options bar, the sample is set to all layers if it isn’t, change it. Then use the tool as usual.

Smart object

1

2

Left click on the image you want to turn into a smart object

Right-click on a layer and select “convert to smart object”

To edit image pixels directly. Right-click on smart object and select “edit contents”. Then edit as you wish.

To make a change of one of multple copied smart object, right-click on smart object and select “new smart object via copy. This allows you to edit images and not affect the other smart object copied.

Brightness/Contrast

Levels

Color balance

Curves

Adjustments are a non-destructive image editing tool that allows you to work on a new lay-er. Using this tool, you can add color and make tonal adjustments. In this section, you’ll learn about some of the most often used adjustments

The Brightness slider allows you to adjust the highlights (light part of the image) to make it brighter and the Contrast slider to adjust the tones (different shades of color) of the image. The “Use Legacy button” should only be used if you want a very ex-treme contrast.

Levels allows you to modify the tone of an image by adjusting the shadows (black arrow), mid tones (grey arrow) and high-lights (white arrows)

Color balance changes and adjusts color issues. It allows you to either shift towards or away from an RGB or CMY. You can also edit a specific tone (shadows, mid tones, and highlights) instead of the image as a whole.

Like levels, you can adjust the shadows and highlights but not mid tones. Replacing mid tones, is a line on a histogram.
