Schools’ Art Competition

The Parish Council has run a Schools’ Art Competition since 1989. The theme for this years competition was ‘Art and Culture in the Parish and County Durham’. Once again some excellent, colourful pictures were created by our local children, from the 10 schools which took part. The local Councillors had the very difficult, but pleasant task of judging the paintings within the schools and the Council provided book tokens of £15, £10 and £5 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in Nursery, Reception, Years 1 & 2, Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6 categories. The 1st prize winners’ pictures were then judged by the Chairman of Durham County Council, Councillor Bill Kellett and his consort Councillor Jean Chaplow at the Parish Council offices on 4th July. The overall winners received a trophy from the Chairman of the Parish Council, Cllr David Bell at the Parish meeting in July. Winners were: Tia Gill, Pre School Silver Trees, Ushaw Moor; Freya Arrowsmith, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Esh Winning; Lucia Everett, New Brancepeth Primary; Lisa Rahimi, Silver Trees Primary, Ushaw Moor and Weronika Wrona, St. Patrick’s School, Langley Moor. Unfortunately Weronika was unable to attend.

Mid Durham AAP

Three year village actions plans Mid Durham AAP, the Parish Council and County Councillors have been working together and visited all the villages in our Parish during June and August. They sat down with over 60 residents for a chat and a cuppa across the 6 villages and on top of this gained the views of a further 180 residents via email or recent village surveys. Across the 6 villages 142 issues and concerns were identified which included local environment, road safety, activities for the young and old, community provision and parking. Residents were eager to work with the AAP and Councillors to resolve these matters. The issues and concerns have been collated together for each village to create individual 3 year village action plans from 2017 until 2020. For a copy of your village plan please contact the AAP on 07818510370 or email [email protected].
