musical instrument. These can

be quite expensive, so in the

initial stages maybe renting an

instrument from a local music

shop would be the best way

forward.

having your own instrument is

always the best, and

About the teacher

Duncan Else has been teaching brass at St Aidan’s for over 35 years. He has a close affinity with the school - with both children having attended and playing an active role in the musical life of the school. He has a wealth of experience as a brass performer and teacher, playing in many bands and orchestras over the years. Also an accomplished conductor, Duncan has conducted ensembles in such prestigious venues as the Symphony Hall, Birmingham and the Royal Festival Hall, London. As a fully qualified teacher, Duncan has a current DBS Enhanced certificate and Public Liability insurance.

About the lessons

Children receive tuition in small groups

or individually. Most lessons will be on

a rolling timetable, with some fixed

lesson times for GCSE/A level students.

Many students continue from starting

tuition at primary school, but a high

level of progress can be made by those

commencing lessons whilst at St Aidans.

ABRSM instrumental graded exams can

be taken at the appropriate levels of

ability.

As pupils progress they will be

encouraged join the school’s music

ensembles in order to fully enjoy the

experience of music making.
