BREAK-GARD® adjuvants as soil amendment improve wetting & penetration of repellent soils due to very low surface tension
Improved infiltration of water reduces run-off of water, nutrients and soil.

Residual moisture
on surface of loamy
soil was reduced.
Thereby the
potential for
diseases and water
losses by
evaporation are
diminished.
Treated plants may
have an increased
photosynthetic
activity. Leaf
number was
increased and the
plants had a more
healthy look.

With addition of BREAK-GARD® IR 100 water infiltration was quicker

Addition of BREAK-GARD® IR 100 leads to
• Higher penetration and infiltration of water in soil
• A better wetted root zone (=deeper soil layers)
• Lateral wetting provides a more homogenously
wetting of soil
• Higher water retention even in drought situation
• Better rewetting of the root zone area after short
droughts
BREAK-GARD® IR 100
reduces evaporation from the soil surface
maintains moisture in the root zone
increases the water & nutrient availability in the
root zone

BREAK-GARD® IR 100 improves the vertical and horizontal waterdistribution in the soil
*Unpublished data of CRA institute, Rome, Italy
Soil moisture in a situation where the soilhave been irrigated after a drought*: untreated (Control / CNT / top) and treated(Surfactant / SURF / bottom) soil fromsurface down to 35 cm in a length of 80 cm‘

Test in a growth chamber with lettuce*
• Growth in loamy soil rich in organic matter
salted to a final Na+ concentration of 100
meq/l
• Higher quality of lettuce compared to the
untreated control:
 more regular and dense head
 greener mature leaves
 higher density
 less diseases

BREAK-GARD® IR 100 addition to salty loamy soil leads to quality improvements in lettuce
Unfertilized lettuce plants 35 days after transplanting (application of BREAK-GARD® IR 100 by irrigation at two
different doses respect to the control).

Application of BREAK-GARD® IR 100
 led to more tomato flowers
increased the number of harvested tomatoes and
the fruit weight
reduced apical rot indicating a better calcium
availability and a better tomato quality
increased number and fruit weight of bell pepper
Positive effects were slightly higher on heavy clay soil
with poor soil drainage – however also on loose clay
soil the effects were visible
With 3 l//ha*season) the needed application amount
is very low (tested between 0.5 – 2 l/ha, one to six
times

BREAK-GARD® IR 100
• shows the same extraordinary high surface activity in water than conventional trisiloxanes
• is clearly soluble in water, water based fertigation and foliar nutrient formulations leading to high solution stability and product activity up to temperatures of 53 °C (cloud point)
• forms micelles in water which ensures solubilizing of fats, oils and particles
Conventional trisiloxanes forms bilayer aggregates in water leading to already turbid appearancein water at room temperature and to reduced surface activity with separation from water beyondcloud point (~42 °C)

BREAK-GARD® IR 100 is a unique trisiloxane as it is highly active also in hot summers

BREAK-GARD® IR 100 leads to a constant wetted root zone, to betterquality and to higher yields
• Is applied in low dosage
• Effectively enhances the penetration and
infiltration of irrigation water and rainfall into
the soil profile
• Reduces evaporation from the soil surface
• Improves maintaining a more homogenous
soil moisture in the root zone
• Increases yield and quality by optimizing
plant nutrition
• Is highly active even at high temperatures
• Is environmentally benign

Dosage of BREAK-GARD® IR 100
1 L/ha up to 2 L/ha for applications in vegetables, grapes, fruits, ornamentals.
Repeat application with a minimum interval of 10 days or longer, up to 6 times per
growing season; irrigate between application cycles as usual.
Application of BREAK-GARD® IR 100
applied through irrigation systems, like drip irrigation, micro-sprinkler, or overhead irrigation
systems (including center pivot systems). In cases of injection into the irrigation systems,
concentrations of lower than 0.02 % (20 ml/100 L) should be avoided.
used from the beginning of irrigation cycle. Onto bare soil it is applied before planting, or
on cultivated broad acreage crops and row crops. It can also be applied with normal boom-
spraying equipment at 1 L/ha in 1000 L/ha water; either immediately before rainfall or
before sprinkler or pivot irrigation.
can be combined with nutrients, and is compatible with micro-nutrients and beneficial
microorganisms which are applied with irrigation / fertigation systems.
