Amador Arts Alliance for Arts Education MeetsIn October 2019, school administrators, county government ofcials, students, and arts education leaders met tocelebrate art and get the State of Arts Education address from the California Alliance for Arts Education. Theevent began with performances from the Amador County Unied School District Jazz Band, directed by retiredteacher Hank King. Art students from Amador and Argonaut High schools showcased their visual art pieces, the2019 POL Champion, Noah Bunting recited one of his winning poems, and the Amador State of Arts Educationaddress was given by Jackson Junior High student Maggie Johnston Swift.

Community members engaged in breakout groups committed to growing the support and funding for artseducation right here in Amador County. Robin Hampton from California Alliance for Arts Education enlightenedthe crowd about trends in arts education funding, planning, integration, and professional development.

As our district and community once again amend and build the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) forACUSD, the Amador Alliance for Arts Education will be helping the district and citizens through the process. Lookto us for help during the LCAP process. Amador County Arts Council and the Amador Alliance for Arts Educationare here to help citizens of all ages be a part of the entire LCAP process. The Alliance includes trainingopportunities, free resources, and continuous support for students, parents, and the district at-large. Since 2017,the Amador Alliance for Arts Education has helped ACUSD direct over $85,000 of LCAP funds into ArtsEducation K-12.

Our work has resulted in the adoption of the Declaration for Equity in Arts Learning (JANUARY 2018), and hassecured our participation in the Arts Planning Initiative (June 2018), leading directly to the ACUSD Board ofTrustees adopting the District Arts Plan in August of 2019. Together, we can ensure that our students get the artseducation they need, that the teachers get the professional development they crave, and that ACUSD hassustainable funding for equitable, sequential, rigorous, and standard-based arts education for all students K-12.

We need YOUR help in the LCAP process! To be a part of the Amador Alliance for Arts Education, contactMeghan O’Keefe at 209-256-8166 or [email protected]
