9th November 2018 A few words from Mrs Nicholson Dear Parents Today we recognised Remembrance Day with a special Assembly delivered by Mr Jackson who gave a wonderful presentation to the whole school on the significance of this special day, whilst also teaching our Breaside children about the history behind the wearing of poppies. It was a pleasure to see the children displaying their poppies and pay their respects with a 2-minute silence throughout the school and to see how well they engaged with the assembly. We continued to sell poppies throughout today and Oliver from Year 5 children made chocolate poppies to sell after school today to raise further funds for this extremely worthwhile cause. With this year being the centenary, I know that there are some special services being held around the country and in our local areas to pay respects to all of those that lost their lives, which I know many of you will be taking part in. It was so nice to catch up with many parents at Parents’ Evening yesterday and would like to thank you all for your positive comments. I look forward to seeing the rest of our parents at the Kindergarten, Pre Prep and 6D Parents’ Evening next Wednesday. A gentle reminder that it is a 10- minute appointment, if you require a longer appointment this can be arranged for another convenient time for yourselves and the teachers. Good luck to the Year 5 and 6 children who are running at Crystal Place tomorrow – make sure to wrap up warm. Good luck also to our Year 6 boys who sat their St Olaves tests today. We are holding our “Anti-Bullying Week” next week and congratulations to those children who have been voted as an Anti-Bullying Ambassador for Breaside, something to be very proud of! They will be attending the National Anti-bullying Conference on Monday and I am sure will come back with lots of positive ideas! Next Friday 16 th November we are holding our ‘Odd Sock Day’ as a way of rounding up our Anti- Bullying Week. We are going to combine this with Children in Need and children are invited to wear either a Pudsey T-shirt or their yellow polo shirts with school uniform. With as many Pudsey accessories as possible and of course odd socks!! Pupils are kindly asked to donate £2.00 to this charity that is close to all our hearts. Thank you. All that remains for me to say this week is have a wonderful weekend everyone and wrap up warm as the weather certainly is beginning to get much colder! A few words from Mrs Nicholson

Dear Parents

Today we recognised Remembrance Day with a special Assembly delivered by Mr Jackson who gave a wonderful presentation to the whole school on the significance of this special day, whilst also teaching our Breaside children about the history behind the wearing of poppies.

A gentle reminder that it is a 10-minute appointment, if you require a longer appointment this can be arranged for another convenient time for yourselves and the teachers.

Next Friday 16th November we are holding our ‘Odd Sock Day’ as a way of rounding up our Anti-Bullying Week.

Netball Year 5 & 6 Netball

Last Friday, two teams went to Blackheath High. We played in the beautiful sunshine against some tough opposition. Brooke played well at GK for Year 6 and Erin was voted Girl of the Match for Year 5. Well done girls!

On Wednesday, we took 30 girls to Merton Court for netball matches. We were crossing our fingers for the weather to hold but played on valiantly despite the rain hitting us in a pretty torrential way!! We suffered some defeats & drew in other matches but came away happily weary & with things to work on. Well done girls!

Year 3 Netball Fun On Monday, we hosted 6 other schools for an afternoon of Year 3 netball fun! We had over 100 children on the playground, with our girls making lots of new friends and having lots of fun in the process! We practiced our ball skills and ended with golden line matches. The children loved the half time oranges and the yummy snacks and juice provided by Mr Turtle! Thanks to the Year 4 girls who helped to look after the younger girls. A great afternoon!

BAND ON THE RUN – 10 places left! In the Spring Term 2019, there is the opportunity for Year 4 and 5 students to learn to play an instrument in a band. The project is in partnership with Bromley Youth Music Trust and will be delivered by some BYMT brass and wind specialists over 5 weeks. The instruments on offer are: clarinet, saxophone, trumpet/cornet, trombone and baritone. We will assess which instrument is most suitable for each child in a try out session. Instrument numbers are limited, so if the project is oversubscribed, places will be on a first come first served basis. BYMT will provide (at Breaside): 2 Group lessons each week for 5 weeks 1 Band rehearsal of 30 minutes each week for 5 weeks A concert performance showcasing the work covered Sheet music Online access to original, exciting backing tracks for all pieces An instrument for the project (there is a £20 deposit for pupils to take home their instrument). There will be a charge of £85 per student. At the end of the 5 week project, when your child has had the experience of learning an instrument and knows what is required to succeed, you should be able to make an informed decision whether to continue with instrumental lessons or stop lessons immediately. There are only 10 places left! If you wish for your child to take part, please contact Mrs Coop as soon as possible. Young Voices
