COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Department of Pathology at Udine General Hospital is pleased to offer its an-nual monothematic surgical pathology course designed for general pathologists, pathology residents and medical oncologists. The objective of this year program is to provide an understanding of problematic and current issues in pathology of the breast with emphasis of morphologic diagnostic features and clinicopathologic correlations. The educational program includes traditional lectures and comple-mentary slide seminars on selected cases made available in advance to the reg-istrants on electronic support. Upon completion, attendants should be able to improve their ability to interpret a number of microscopic entities such as the spectrum of proliferative ductal, lobular, and papillary lesions, basal like carcinoma, mucinous carcinoma and microglandular adenosis. Controversial topics such as conse-quences, complications and artifacts following core needle biopsy and interpreta-tion and reporting of equivocal sentinel lymph nodes features will also be addressed. A special session will cover advances in breast cancer biomolecular markers, tissue analysis for therapy purposes, and the challenges and promises of stem cell research and their clinical translation.
