Overview Established in March 2008, Breathing Space Thailand is unique in being the first 12 step luxury drug and alcohol addiction rehab centre in Thailand. Using a holistic, Whole Person approach to work the Mind, Body and Soul we integrate the 12-step model of treatment with psychotherapy, complementary therapy, spa treatments and excursions.

Licensed and Legal Breathing Space Thailand is currently Thailand’s only licensed and legal private drug and alcohol addiction treatment clinic for an international clientele. Our status as an addictions treatment clinic is endorsed and approved by the Thai government’s Ministry of Public Health, to provide both medical and psychotherapy services. We have met all legislation in Thailand for running a business and all documentation is on display at our registered clinic. Excellent Staff to Client Ratio At Breathing Space Thailand, there is only ever a maximum of 11 clients attending our program at any one time. We provide 1 therapist for every 2 clients, which enables us to provide an outstanding level of bespoke, discreet, effective, individualized treatment and an exceptional quality of care.

The following are included in your treatment program at Breathing Space Thailand:

• Private pick up at the airport with an escort and driver. • Full medical check-up at our on-site clinic, including blood test. • All therapy, treatments, personal training (extra sessions are included if needed.) • All meals • Your laundry is done daily • Your private room is cleaned for you daily • Drinks and fresh fruit in your room. • Weekly excursions including meals out, entrance fees, transportation, etc. • Private transfer to the airport on completion of the Breathing Space Thailand program.

The following are not included in your treatment program at Breathing Space Thailand:

• Airfare or transportation to Chiang Mai. • Cigarettes, souvenirs, international phone calls.• Travel medical insurance (strongly recommended, you are responsible for non-treatment related medical expenses).


Rules and Regulations at Breathing Space Thailand

At Breathing Space Thailand we treat all clients with dignity and respect. Clients are also expected to treat the staff and other clients in a manner in which they would expect to be treated themselves.

There are a few situations in which a client may be asked to leave Breathing Space Thailand prior to completing the program. These might include but are not limited to:

• Threatening or verbally abusing another client or staff member.

• Sexual, religious or racial discrimination.

• Jeopardizing another client’s recovery.

• Leaving the centre un-escorted.

• Smuggling illegal drugs or alcohol into the centre.

• Disclosing the identity of another client to a 3rd party.

• Theft or intentional damage of someone else’s property.

• Sexual relations between clients.

Is There a Minimum Age Requirement for Attendance? Clients must be 18+, speak English

Program Reservations and Payments • Full Balance of the due program fee is required prior to or upon arrival.

• We accept bank transfer, cash, or credit cards. Our bank account details for money transfer payments are available on request.

• If you are attending the Breathing Space Thailand program at short notice and the program fee payment will not clear in time before your arrival, please email or fax the wire transfer receipt before your departure.

• Program fees are subject to change without notice.


Breathing Space Thailand Medical Clinic During your treatment with us, you will be provided with individualized treatment of the very highest standard. We provide a licensed medical clinic for our clients facilitated by a team of qualified and experienced doctors, nurses and medical technicians. This means more discretion and individualized care, so your medical needs can be met at Breathing Space Thailand without having to travel to a hospital beyond our program (unless any specific medical issues require). Breathing Space Thailand is Thailand’s licensed and legal addictions clinic.

Please Note: We do not provide a medical detoxification. It’s a requirement of attendance, that if you need a medical detoxification, you do so before commencing the Breathing Space Thailand program.

Arrival at Breathing Space Thailand

When clients arrive at Breathing Space Thailand they are given:

• A physical examination • A blood examination

Clients will receive a full health assessment from our licensed clinic doctor. If clients require any prescribed medication this will be overseen by the BST medical clinic team, to ensure you receive the appropriate support and advice. In addition to the BST clinic we also have a medical team on standby 24 hours a day, for medical emergencies only.


Important Note about Medications

Depending on your arrival time you might not be able to see the doctor immediately, unless it’s an emergency. If you feel you will need medication on your first night at Breathing Space Thailand or over the weekend, for Friday arrivals, you will need to see your local doctor and bring your medication and a legal prescription, with you - i.e. medication for high blood pressure, asthma etc. You will need to ensure that you bring a large enough supply of any such medication with you, to last the length of your stay at Breathing Space Thailand.

Do not bring any illegal/un-prescribed Drugs/Alcohol into the Breathing Space Thailand facility.

Do not bring any medication that isn’t prescribed in your name.

Contract

By booking a place on the Breathing Space Thailand program you are voluntarily agreeing to abide by the rules and refund policy detailed in this document.

Our qualified and accredited therapy team has over 120 years of experience treating drug and alcohol addiction. Breathing Space Thailand’s clinic is staffed by a qualified and experienced medical team.

Breathing Space Thailand’s staff includes psychologists, counselors and psychotherapists who are qualified and accredited members of various professional bodies, including the British Association for Counseling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the European Association for the Treatment of Addiction (UK) (EATA) and The Federation of Drug & Alcohol Professionals (FDAP).

The Breathing Space Thailand clinic is also a member of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) and the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals (FDAP).

What Addictions and Conditions Does Breathing Space Thailand Treat ?

We treat clients with the following addictions: alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, crack, heroin, methamphetamine, prescription medications and most illegal substances. Breathing Space Thailand treats the following conditions, sex addiction, gambling. We can also work with depression, stress, anxiety, phobias and relationships.


Can I undergo a Medical Detoxification at Breathing Space Thailand ? We do not provide any kind of medical detoxification at Breathing Space Thailand. We strongly recommend that you undergo any required medical detoxification prior to commencing the Breathing Space Thailand program.

Does Breathing Space Thailand Allow a Client’s Family Member(s) to Attend Treatment with Them ? This is a question we get asked quite frequently! Breathing Space Thailand, along with many other residential addictions treatment facilities around the world, does not allow our clients to be accompanied in their residence on the program.

When a person engages in residential addictions treatment, it's a process best undertaken outside his or her usual environment. This also means being away from the presence of those you have been close to, prior to commencing treatment.

There is a great need for self-reflection and objectivity during the treatment process, and the presence of one's family presents an unnecessary distraction which prolongs and complicates the therapeutic process.

During the last three days of the program, we invite interested family members to join our clients in order to re-introduce them in a safe and supportive environment. During this time we would be happy to address any issues that might be of concern.


The Family ProgramBreathing Space Thailand’s Family Program has been created to develop the well-being of those who live with or care about a person with a drug or alcohol addiction. Through education and guidance Breathing Space Thailand’s Family Program participants learn they can’t control their loved one’s addiction but they can begin to take responsibility for their own well-being and happiness.

The stress of living with another’s addiction can have physical, emotional, social, and spiritual consequences. The families often feel bewildered, defeated, annoyed and helpless. The Breathing Space Thailand family program helps participants to overcome confusion and anxiety and provides rejuvenation and renewal by identifying how addiction affects the family and what families can do to nurture themselves.

The Breathing Space Thailand Family Program will help families to learn that they can’t ‘manage’ addiction, they are not responsible for addiction and they can’t cure addiction. By becoming aware of the perspectives and personal experiences that influence their own thoughts and actions, participants of the Breathing Space Thailand program identify new, productive ways of managing with addiction and relationships.

The Breathing Space Thailand Family Program includes:

These treatments are designed to help you to relax and also enjoy the therapeutic environment and make it easier for you to benefit from being in treatment.

Breathing Space Thailand Spa Facilities

At Breathing Space Thailand we have included the spa experience into the program to allow our clients to find healthy ways to relax and enjoy themselves and benefit from the therapeutic aspect of the treatments that we offer.

Each week our clients attend two 90 minute spa therapy sessions. Our spa center provides amenities for up to 10 clients, with separate male and female steam, sauna and massage rooms, rain showers and a large outdoor 8 person Jacuzzi, surrounded by tropical plants and water features. The spa facilities remain available beyond the two timetabled sessions, where time permits.

The Breathing Space Thailand Living Environment

Breathing Space Thailand provides you with a safe, tranquil, natural environment in which to recover. With the largest mountain range in Thailand as the back drop, this secluded tropical environment features lakes, landscaped gardens, private and secluded space.

Clients will find themselves in an environment that is peaceful, welcoming and conducive to change.


Accommodation

We have 11 individual, deluxe, interior-designed en suite accommodations to provide you with a comfortable stay during your treatment with us.

Each client has their own individual accommodation that includes a living space, en suite bathroom and spacious private balcony with exquisite views and rooms are equipped with cable TV, DVD, writing desk and a fridge with fresh fruit juices and mineral water.


Excursions

All of the leisure time activities are linked with a therapeutic context and apply to each individual client from a strengths-based perspective.

While you are here at Breathing Space Thailand you will be taken on many different excursions including elephant riding, hill tribe visits, hot springs, mineral baths.

The leisure time activities are designed to provide clients with an experiential and existential or ‘here and now’ focus or what we describe as ‘immediate therapy’.

Our recreational facilities include a spa, swimming pool, and outdoor sala where you can relax in the shade and a sun lounge area. There is also a personal fitness studio and acres of wonderful tropical gardens nestled around natural lakes.

All costs are inclusive in the program fee, except the airfare to Thailand. For those seeking the ultimate in discretion and convenience we can arrange for private charter flights direct to Chiang Mai International Airport, from anywhere in the world.

There is provision for clients to be provided with escorted flights, at an additional fee.

Visa Requirements

For stays of 28 days, a 30-day tourist visa can be obtained on arrival at the airport in Bangkok. For stays over 30 days, we recommend that you obtain the correct visa at the Thai consulate in your city.

Travel Insurance Clients are required to obtain their own travel insurance to cover the costs of any emergency medical expenses.

Vaccines

No medical vaccines are required when coming to Chiang Mai.
