We have identified for you the 5 next best breed matches which appeared in the analysis of your dog's DNA. One ormore of these breeds could have contributed to the genetic makeup of the ancestors indicated by the mixed breedicon. The breeds are listed by the relative strength of each result in our analysis with the most likely at the top ofthe list. There could also be a breed or breeds present in the mixed breed component that we cannot detect with ourcurrent database of purebred dogs.

HOW WISDOM PANEL INSIGHTS WORKSThe process started when you sent a sample to our laboratory, where the DNA was extracted from the cells andexamined for the 321 markers that are used in the test. The results for these markers were sent to a computer,

that evaluated them using a program designed to consider all of the pedigree trees that are possible in the lastthree generations. The trees considered include a simple pedigree with a single breed (a likely pure-bred dog), twodifferent breeds at the parental level (a first-generation cross), all the way up to a complex tree with eight differentgreat-grandparent breeds allowed.

Our computer used information from over 185 breeds from our breed database to fill these potential pedigrees. For each of the millions of combinations of ancestry trees built and considered, the computer gave each a scorerepresenting how well that selected combination of breeds matched to your dog’s data. The pedigree with the overallbest score is the one which is shown on the ancestry chart. Only breeds that reached our set confidence threshold forreporting are reported in the ancestry chart.

Rottweilers are an ancient breed, dating all the way back to the early Roman Empire. Roman troops wereaccompanied on their travels by the Roman cattle dogs, which helped herd the cattle that would later serve asfood for the soldiers. The travels of the Roman armies took them through Europe and Germany, and specificallythe town of Rottweil. This eventually became a cattle area and the descendants of the Roman cattle dogs wereused to protect the herds. Rottweilers made excellent working dogs and were used to pull carts as well as herdand protect. They were also known for their ability to hunt boar. By the end of the nineteenth century, the breedwas virtually extinct to the point of there being only one female left in the entire town of Rottweil. Before WorldWar I police dogs were needed, and the Rottweiler was chosen for the task due to their strength, intelligenceand ability to follow directions. The first Rottweiler club was founded in Germany in 1907 and Rottweilers weresaved from extinction. The breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1931.

The Rottweiler has medium length hair which lies flat across the body. The coat is always black accompaniedwith varying shades of tan, from a bright rust to a dark mahogany. There is always a spot above both eyes andthe sides of the muzzle and the legs may also be marked.

The modern day German Shepherd breed is a cross between the long-haired, short-haired and wire-hairedshepherd dogs of the German regions of Württemberg, Thuringia and Bavaria. Initially bred for herding, due totheir strength, intelligence and excellent temperament, they became popular as guard dogs, guide dogs, searchand rescue dogs, police dogs and military dogs. Max Emil Von Stephanitz sought to protect and refine theGerman Shepherd breed at the end of the nineteenth Century. German Shepherds were used as German policeand military dogs during World Wars I and II. Allied soldiers during World War I took notice of the Shepherd’suse as messenger dogs or search and rescue dogs as they were very good at locating wounded soldiers. Somesoldiers introduced the breed to their home countries and the popularity of the German Shepherd took off,

making it one of the most popular breeds in the world today. The German Shepherd Dog was recognized bythe American Kennel Club in 1908.

German Shepherd Dogs are generally a combination of black and tan, though more or less black may beseen. There is also a "gray" variant where the tip of the hair is black and the rest is tan. EARS MUZZLE TAIL

The Shih Tzu was a breed that was created in Tibet during the seventeenth century. The development of theShih Tzu was achieved by the crossbreeding of the Lhasa Apso and Pekingese breeds. This crossbreedingoccurred when a Lhasa Apso was given as a gift by the Dalai Lama to the Emperor of China. The Emperor hada Pekingese in his palace and this Pekingese mated with the Lhasa, resulting in the world’s first litter of ShihTzu puppies. Eventually, the breed became very popular in the Imperial Court, but in 1908 after the death ofEmpress T’zu Hsi, most Shih Tzu breeding came to a stop. This was further complicated by the CommunistRevolution in China, which nearly caused the breed to become extinct. The Shih Tzu was saved, however,by a pool of 14 dogs that were introduced into England. The Shih-Tzu did not find its way to America untilafter World War II, when they were brought back with American soldiers. The breed received official AmericanKennel Club recognition in 1969.

The Shih Tzu is a breed with a wide variety of colors, with all permissible under the breed standard. Thecolors can be blacks, browns, silvers, creams, and brindle (black and brown pattern) in solid, particolor ortricolor with lots of white. Black markings or a black mask are also seen in this breed.
