Excellence in Leadership in Indigenous Education Awards

On Wednesday 3rd of June Tammy Anderson, Jason Sampson, Alicia Hodges and myself were invited to Brisbane to collect our very special award. Ms Anderson, Mr Sampson and Ms Hodges spoke to over 250 Principals from all over Australia and told them about all the wonderful things we do here for all the students at Briar Road. I had many people ask-ing me about our wonderful school. They also told me that Briar Road’s presentation was the best. I was a very proud Principal and you should be proud too. We were also excited to receive a cheque for $5000.00 to purchase resources for the school. We were one of only 7 schools across Australia to receive this prestigious award.

Canteen

This is an Important Message!

Due to renovations our school canteen will only be open for lunches from Monday 28th June until Friday 2nd July. Children will need to order all food for lunch and recess in the morning from the Chillout Room which is located in the Kindergarten Block. The canteen will not be open at Lunch and Recess to purchase food. We are hoping that all the renovations will be complete before we return to school. Thanks for your understanding. We will have a brand new state of the art canteen when we return.

Mobile Phones

We have had a number of students coming to school with mobile phones. Please remember that as a parent/caregiver it is your responsibility to collect and sign our mobile phone policy. You can pick this up from the front office (anytime) and download from the web (as of next week). The school takes no responsibility for mobiles and students must adhere to strict guidelines as out lined in our policy.

Congratulations!

It is now official. Michelle Thompson is now our permanent School Administra-tion Manager. Well done! We are all very pleased!

BUSY NEWS FROM 3-6K

In 3/6K we have been reading “Bugalugs”, a book about a town that all

have their bottoms stolen. It was very amusing. We are now reading

“When I was a little like you” by Mary Malbunka.

We have learned about lifecycles and can write information reports on

animals.

In maths we have made lots of column graphs. The best ones

are when we make them using lollies.

Scooters Last year a ban was placed on scooters because children were riding them to school without a helmet, riding them in a dangerous manner and bringing them into the school office. Again we have quite a number of students riding their scooters to school without helmets and in a dangerous manner. If this doesn't stop I will need to ban them again. Please make sure your child has a helmet. No riding of scooters on school premises, children are to walk them in and definitely no scooters in the school foyer.

The Koori kids also did quite well at the

cross-country carnival that we held recently.

We have to make special mention to Shyra

Rose who actually went on to win the zone

cross-country for her age division. The cou-

rageous Jackob Wickey came third, Maddi-

son Tidmarsh also doing well with Thomas

Wright & Dakota Connolly finishing be-

hind each other in their race. All these kids

now have the opportunity to represent at

the regional cross-country. We wish them all

luck & keep them speedy legs flying.

The Koori kids of Briar have been busy of late. The cultural lessons that have been running on Fridays have been a huge success & the students from all the classes have been really engaged. It has been a great way for all of our kids at Briar Road to learn about Aboriginal culture & history.

The boys Aboriginal Dance

Group have also been busy

with dancing up a storm all

over the place. They recently

danced at the SAM regional

conference at Liverpool. The

boys have grown in confidence

& already have more requests

for them to perform their

dances at other events. Keep it

up Boys!!!!
