• Common generic name: Thin Brick
• Intended primary use: Interior applications.
• Physical properties:
Finish: Multiple colors, Patterns, Sizes
Dimensions: The most commonly found face size is standard modular with nominal dimensions of 2-2/3 in. by 8 in.
• Structural Properties: Interior Wall Veneer
• Installation methods: Adhered Veneer Thin Set over wallboard Thick Set Exterior
• Cost: Price per square foot: $7 to $8 min per sq ft
• How it's made: Soft mud; raw clay. 25-30% sand, ground and mixed with water, pressed into steel molds with hydraulic press, fired at 900-1000 deg C.
• Components:
Raw state: Clay, mud
Composition: Bricks are a mixture of clay and sand which is mixed with water to create the correct consistency.
• Process to make: Soft mud, dry press and extruded.
Manufacturing process: Silica (sand), Alumina (clay), Lime (2-5% weight), Iron Oxide (Greater/equal to 7%), Magnesia (Less than 1%).

Byproducts of process: Lime, Ash, and Organic matter to accelerate burning process.
• Historical/ Cultural significance:
There were early uses of thin brick in the early 1950's
Structural Clay Products Research Foundation (now the Brick Institute of America) began the development of "SCR Re-Nu-Veneer"
3/4 in. (19 mm) thick fired clay unit which had normal size nominal face dimensions (2 – 2/3 in. by 12 in)
The decision to begin development of this product was due to marketing research which recognized remodeling and re-veneering areas as substantial markets for a thin clay veneer wall covering.
