Purpose of Workshop Making a Successful Transition from Leo to Lion

1. To provide an opportunity for Leos and Lions to discuss how we as an association can create the type of environment in which Leos want to become Lions.

2. To share best practices and success stories related to the Leo to Lion transition in various parts of the world.

A Brief History of Leo to Lion Transition Efforts

Alpha to Omega to Lion: The Cyber (Omega) Leo Club

• District 24-A had 27 Leo Clubs – 27 Alpha Leo Clubs

• 17 high school or community-based clubs and 10 middle school clubs

– 0 Omega Leo Clubs

• Alpha Leos graduate from school-based Leo clubs and go off to trade school or college.

• The Leos find few existing campus Lions clubs at the colleges and schools.

• Cost of Lions membership compounded with tuition, room, board and books make Lions membership impossible.

• Loss of interest in volunteerism and community service. • Finds other interests while in college or school. • Fails to join a Lions club after graduation.

Bridging the Gap: The Solution in MD 24

• Promote the Omega Cyber Leo Club to the graduating high school seniors of the school-based and community-based Alpha Leo clubs.

• Encourages them to transfer to a Lions or Omega Leo club.

• Promotes the importance of volunteerism, leadership and community service as part of their resume-building.

• Keeps the Leos active through graduation.

• Allows Leos to continue their service as a Leo until age 30 or effect the conversion to a Lion at anytime from high school graduation to age 30.

Bridging the Gap: Completing the Cycle

• Alpha Leo graduates from high school, goes right to work, and joins his/her local Lions club.

• Alpha Leo transfers to Omega Leo in an existing Omega Leo club, and then transfers to a Lions club by age 30.

• Alpha Leo transfers to an existing campus Lions club upon entering college.

• Alpha Leo transfers to the Cyber Omega Leo Club upon entering college or trade school:

– Stays a Cyber Leo until graduation then transfers to a Lions club. – Forms or joins an existing Omega Leo club serving the campus or

community. – Transfers to an existing Lions club in the community of the college or school. – Forms a campus Lions club or a Leo Lions club.
