S.G.Govt Degree College Piler of Chittoor District is conducting "INSPIRE" program

sponsored by Deparment of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, to the students of

Intermediate who are studying mathematics and sciences.

On the second day inspire lectures were arranged by inviting

Prof. P.V.Arunachalam, Ex-Vice chancellor of Dravidian University, Kuppam and Prof

N.Bhaskar Reddy of S.V.University Tirupathi.

Prof.P.V. Arunachalam gave an elaborate lecture on the

development of science. He also mentioned the events which inspired Goutham Budha

and Mahatma Gandhi to lead them into great men in the society. He also mentioned

the inspired moments of great mathematicians to formulate different theories.

Prof N. Bhaskar Reddy gave a lecture on mathematical modeling and its

applications in Astrophysics, Nanotechnology, design and testing of nuclear weapons and

in bio medical sciences.

In the afternoon session the students were taken to the

departments of Botany, Zoology, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Biotechnology

and Microbiology for hands on experimentation. All these programs were conducted

under the guidance of the principal Dr.T.V.Manjulatha Devi and Co-Ordinator

Smt.Ushasree.

DAY3:

As a part of INSPIRE program sponsored by Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of

India Prof. P.V .Ranganayakulu of S.V.Ayurvedic College, Tirupathi and Dr.D.V.Reddy

Reader in Chemistry of this college were invited on the third day to deliver special

lectures.

Prof P.V Ranganayakulu delivered an inspire lecture on Astronomy

and Nuclear Physics. He opined that there is a good scope in the feild of Astronomy and

nuclear physics for research and career oppurtunities. He advised the students to work

with dedication so that Noble prizes can be won like those of scientists of Germany. He

also suggested to read the biographies of great scientists to get inspired and progress.

6

Dr.D.Venkatramana Reddy explained the aim, objectives and various components

of INSPIRE program. He has described the educational, career opportunities, National

institutes offering various courses, list of National Research centers to the benefit of the

students. He also explained the importance of chemistry in day to day life with special

emphasis on Organic Chemistry.

The students attended to the laboratories of the college for Hands on Experimentation in

the noon session. Laboratory kits (Science Kits) were issued to all the students. The

program was conducted in the supervision of the principal Dr. T.V. Manjulatha Devi,

Co-ordinated by K. Ushasri, DrP.Hanumantha Raju, K.Hemalatha and J.Kishore Kumar.

DAY 4:

As a part of Inspire program sponsored by Department of science and technology,

Govt. of India, on the fourth day two eminent scientists were invited to inspire the

students at S.G. Govt Degree College Piler. Prof. R.Ramakrishna Reddy UGC emeritus

scientist, SK University Anantapur was invited and he had inspired the students by his

lecture "Inspire by Nature". He said that man has been inspired by different living

organisms for his development. The lotus leaf was the inspiration for the development of

Lotus water proof paint, the spiders web for the construction of Niagara Suspension

Bridge, the shape of Kingfisher for the fastest bullet train, the ant hills for the

multistoried air conditioned building.

He also explained that the visual, auditory, olfactory sense is more in animals

than that of man. He emphasized the need of knowing several things from nature. Man

is depending on animals like dogs for identifying the criminals even today, also told that

the animals could identify the natural calamity earlier to machines.

8

Dr.A.Sivakumar from Vellore Institute of technology, Vellore gave a lecture on "

Heavy metals and their impact on human life". He said that the metals like mercury,

iron, cobalt, chromium, sodium, potassium are required in permissible limits to carry out

metabolic activities. The metals like lead and cadmium are not essential to human life.

He made a point that due to pollution the heavy metals are entering human body and

causing the diseases. He advised the students to educate the society on illeffects of

heavy metal pollution.

The students went to the laboratories in the afternoon session for hands on
