Activity on SHS - Collection and disposal of Plastic materials from 21.10.2019 to 27.10.2019
Plastic Reverse Vending Machine Installation: The word "plastic" comes from the Greek
word plastikos, which means that it can be shaped or molded. Approximately, one third of the plastic
produced is used for packaging. Another third is used for siding and piping. Pure plastics are generally
insoluble in water and nontoxic. However, many of the additives in plastics are toxic and may leach
into the environment and thus there is an urgent need to tackle the usage of single use plastics.
To support safe disposal of Single use Plastic bottles, CPCL installed a “Plastic Reverse Vending
Machine” at Greater Chennai Corporation, Chennai on 23.10.2019. Shri G.Prakash, IAS,
Commissioner of Chennai Corporation inaugurated the plastic RVM in the presence of Smt.
S.Malathivijayalaxmi, DGM (Admin). The machine is expected to aid in recycling of around 2000 nos
