O f c o u r s e , t h e d i a g n o s i s o f c a n c e r may h a v e b e e n

e r r o n e o u s .The o t h e r c a s e wa3 t h a t o f a l a d y w h o m I n e v e r saw

m y s e l f , b u t a n a c c o u n t was g i v e n me o f i t b y a n o l d f r i e n di n g e n e r a l p r a c t i c e . . I t was i n t h e d a y s wh en t h y r o i de x t r a c t was i n f a v o u r , a n d h e t r i e d i t i n a c a s e o f r e c u r r e n t

c a n c e r o f t h e b r e a s t , w h e r e t h e r e w e r e u l c e r a t e d p l a q u e s i nt h e s k i n , a n d t h e d i a g n o s i s had b e e n c o n f i r m e d b y m i c r o -

s c o p i c a l - e x a m i n a t i o n . H e p u s h e d t h e a d m i n i s t r a t i o n o f

t h y r o i d e x t r a c t u n t i l t h e p a t i e n t was s o i l l f r o m i t t h a t h ef e a r e d t h a t s h e m i g h t d i e . B u t wh en s h e h a d r e a c h e d

t h a t s t a t e h e r c a n c e r b e g a n t o g e t w e l l , a n d c o n t i n u e d t od o s o u n d e r l e s s v i g o r o u s d o s e s o f t h y r o i d u n t i l s h e q u i t er e c o v e r e d .

I t w i l l b e o b s e r v e d t h a t i n b o t h t h e s e c a s e s t h e m e d i c i n e

was p u s h e d u n t i l i t p r o d u c e d a v e r y e x t r a o r d i n a r y e f f e c tu p o n t h e h e a l t h o f t h e p a t i e n t . A r e p e t i t i o n o f t h e same

t a c t i c s h a s n o t b e e n a t t e n d e d w i t h s u c c e s s i n t h e c a s e o fe i t h e r r e m e d y . C e r t a i n l y n o t w i t h t h y r o i d , f o r I h a v e
