SHDSL CPE’s■ What is? An SHDSL modem combined with a built-in router/bridge

■ No more modular interface slot like in the classic Crocus SHDSL.

■ One box contains it all.

■ Mainly intended for interconnection with SHDSL line cards which you find in DSLAMs or other MSAPs, like the ones from Alcatel, Cisco, Siemens, Nokia and all the other manufacturers.

■ Compare it with an ADSL modem you find at home, but now aimed at the professional market using SHDSL instead of ADSL.

■ Any other use? Sure, but inform yourself before commiting to the customer.

■ 1421 for instance can be used in a point to point setup as well.

■ Or in combination with the Crocus SHDSL of the CN4 series

SHDSL CPE - What is common?■ The modem part.

■ 1 pair: providing up to 2,3 Mbps of bandwidth

■ 2 pair: even up to 4,6 Mbps.

■ SHDSL – TCPAM16. Also known as G.SHDSL

■ The router part.

■ Runs on TDRE, our router engine featured with a lot of specs like bridging, routing, VLAN support, VPN support, etc..

■ There is a lot of difference for the rest !!

■ Please check the Quick Reference Guide !!

Switching methods – how to select?

■ Telindus 2400 Series supports different layer 2 and layer 3 switching methods.

■ Important issues for the operator are:

■ Identification of the customer (CPE)

■ No unnecessary traffic over the DSL lines

■ The slides which follow show the different possibilities.

■ NOT ALL ARE AVAILABLE TODAY YET HOWEVER

How to select – final

■ Several layer 2 & 3 options available regarding switching

■ Choice based on:

■ ATM or IP core infrastructure ( uplink )

■ Scalability (# VLAN in 1 network are limited)

■ Where is the user identification and authentication

■ Configuration effort
