Children have a big influence on the decision process of their parents

when making the choice of fast-food restaurant. A well considered play area for

a business of this type has to be customised towards different customers. For the child the key element is fun, so the party needs to start at the first moment they arrive. It’s also important that children feel they have their own space to play and burn some energy! For customers without

children, or parents who need a break, it’s an ideal opportunity for some peace and

quiet! Which concept can cover both these requirements?

Fastfood

“Dad.., can we eat here again tomorrow?”

Children take very little interest in the purchase process required for day to

day shopping. After a short period of time the child becomes bored and agitated. They

start seeking the attention of their parents or wander off through the store to find something interesting. In both cases the attention of the parents is distracted from the purchase process. What would be the result if the child could be

entertained in a safe environment giving the parents time to do their shopping?

“Mum.. MUM..! MUUUUUUMMM!!”

Retail

Children can be quite a burden when shopping for groceries. As a result of

this, parents will often only grab essential products, then leave the store. Children are bored in the store because there is little to entertain them. What would be the effect if the child is playing safely and the parents

have the time to buy all the products they need?

“We are going to the fun one, right?”

Government Uden | 7

Eventually we all have to visit a local govern-ment office or police station. A necessity for the

parents means a burden for the child, with long waiting times and nothing to interest the children who just want to play! After a few minutes waiting patience is gone and the child starts to roll on the ground, create noise or run around. How could the experience of all customers be improved if the chil-dren can just play quietly?

“… How much longer will it take…?”

Government

8 | St. Franciscus Hospital

For children a visit to the doctor, dentist or the hospital can be a

traumatic event. Tension rises as the child waits in turn for their appointment and little

is done in many locations to distract the child’s attention. How could the child’s experience be improved in this environment through play and what would the benefits be to other

clients?

“Nooo..!! I don’t want to!!”

Healthcare

Coop Restaurant | 9

Children don’t want to sit at the table and listen to their parents talk. They want to run

around between the chairs and tables and explore under the furniture! Unfortunately Mum and Dad

don’t allow this because it can annoy other guests. It’s unlikely that the parents will choose a dessert or a nice cup of coffee at the end of the meal because the priority may have changed to getting the kids home as soon as possible! How would the turnover of the business, the satisfaction of the customers and the

experience for the child be improved if children could play in the restaurant without being a

burden?

“I wanna go home!!”
