    THE RACE

The NASA ROVER CHALLENGE will be

held April 08-14, 2014 in Huntsville

Alabama, at the U.S Space & Rocket

    Center.

Team members will be required to

    address a series of engineering

problems that are similar to problems

faced by the old Moon-buggy team.

Each Moon-buggy will be a human

    powered, all-terrain vehicle and will

be driven by two students, one female

and one male, over a half-mile

    simulated lunar terrain course

    including "craters", rocks, "lava"

    ridges, inclines and "lunar" soil.

The vehicle must be collapsible to fit

inside a cube of size four feet, and in

this state must be carried by the

drivers up to a distance of twenty feet.

What is NASA HUMAN EXPLORATION ROVER CHALLENGE?

NASA organizes the great Moon-buggy race in Huntsville, Alabama, at the U.S.

Space & Rocket Center every year.

    Description-

The NASA ROVER CHALLENGE 2014 is the 1st instalment in the series of annual

Moonbuggy competition. The event will be held in the month of April, 2014 at the

Marshall Space Centre, Huntsville, Alabama, U.S.A. The event is the largest of its

kind international competition at high school and college (undergraduate) level.

The event witnesses around 40 teams from around the globe competing against

each other for the title of the best.

    The Challenge-

A team of six members are given the task to design and fabricate a two seater,

human powered vehicle that will be used to traverse an obstacle course of half a

mile, simulated in the image of the lunar surface. The vehicle must be collapsible

to fit inside a cube of size five feet, and in this state must be carried by the drivers

up to a distance of twenty feet. The vehicle is supposed to be driven by a male and

    a female candidate.

    The Prizes-

Apart from the awards for the top three winning teams there are a host of other

    awards that include

Feather-weight Award- For the lightest vehicle.

Most Improved- For the best improvements made in the design.

Rookie Award- For the best performing new entry.

Best Report- For the team with the best design Report.

System Safety- For the vehicle with the best safety standards.

Design Award- For the best approach towards designing a vehicle for

    traversing on lunar surface.

Each Moonbuggy is a "proof-of-concept" human powered vehicle to be driven over a half-mile course with twisting curves, treacherous gravel pits and other obstacles simulating lunar surface conditions

    About our team

Our Moonbuggy design consists of its suspension system, chassis, drive trains, steering mechanism, brake system, recumbent seat assembly, tires and the wheel assembly.

Each part will be designed and assembled to allow the vehicle to withstand the engineering challenges posed by the rough lunar terrain and to meet the requirements of high strength, rigidity and good dynamic performance.

The vehicle will boast an ultra-lightweight foldable design in order to minimize the payload on the space missions it may be carried on. The moonbuggy will be a human-powered all-terrain vehicle with the capability to become a hybrid at a later stage.

Our team consists of six student members under the guidance of one faculty advisor .The team is subdivided into three groups: Suspension & Steering, Chassis & Bodywork and Marketing & Finance.

The team members are responsible for the design, fabrication and testing of the vehicle

Two members will drive the vehicle over the rough course designed to simulate the lunar terrain

All members will ensure that the vehicle meets all the required safety criterion

The 6-membered team along with the faculty advisor will travel to the NASA US Space and Rocket Center to take part in the race to be held on the 10th April, 2014.
