Greetings!

I hope that everyone is having a great summer. The Lancer is our summer publi-

cation devoted to back to school information. I hope that it answers many of your ques-

tions; however, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any additional questions or con-

cerns. My email is [email protected] or call me at 785-3910.

On-line registration will begin on July 25th. The registration window closes on

August 31st. If you have any questions about the registration process, please contact Su

Edington in the BC Main Office.

The BC Guidance Team will be hosting Parent and Student Info nights for all

grade levels. 9th Grade Info Night: 8/31 6pm-7pm (Aux Gym), 10th Grade Info Night:

be posted on the guidance web page. The grade level meetings will provide a specific over-

view of the year for the students. It is important for both parents AND students to attend

the meetings.

As a way of introducing themselves to the BC Community, each staff member has

created a bio page. Each page will include course syllabi and a list of special supplies (we

do not have an official school supply list) that are needed for their classes. All students will

be issued a Chromebook. We will not be hosting an Open House this school year. Instead,

that 2 hour block of time will be used during our 1st Term Parent-Teacher Conferences

student who is struggling socially, emotionally or academically. While we will continue to

celebrate our great accomplishments, we are also dedicated to providing support for ALL

During the past school year under the guidance of Ms. Megan Fisher, the Business Lead-

ership class has taken the idea of a student-run business at BC to the point where we have

signed an agreement with The Redmond Company. The students have done amazing

work!

The Lancer Lounge will be a coffee shop, allowing students to apply classroom learning to a real business. The actual coffee shop will be in what is currently our staff lounge and

the seating area will be in our cafeteria. The staff lounge will be relocated. The common

area will provide a space for staff and students to collaborate, study and relax.

The goal of the student team is for this to be a community project - built by students and

the BC Community. The student team is asking for your help - and there are a variety of

ways for you to get involved. Click here for the info about the project!

The following are excerpts from our student handbook that pertain to attendance. Our focus for the 2016/2017 school year is to decrease the number of students that are tardy to school/class and the num-

ber of students that are absent to school.

Closed Campus

Brookfield Central High School is a closed campus. Violation of this policy is grounds for suspension and/or loss of parking privileges. Students must stay in the school building from the time they arrive until dismissal unless they have Youth Options, Career Exploration (CEO) class, or Senior Privilege on their schedule, or they have otherwise

been excused by parents and/or school officials prior to leaving the building.

Leaving the Building (Elmbrook Board Policy 5113)

If a student needs to leave for any reason during the school day, an Office Permission slip must be obtained prior

to leaving the building. The attendance office is open before school every day. The parental note must include:

Name and grade of student Day(s) and date (s)of absence

Reason for absence Signature of parent or guardian

Students returning to campus during the scheduled school day (Including SPO) are to check in at the Atten-

dance Office. Students are reminded that they are to be out of school only for the time actually needed. Any stu-dent who leaves campus without an Office Permission slip will be marked unexcused for the missed periods and will be subject to disciplinary procedures.

Out of Building is only approved for students who meet one or more of the following criteria:

Doing Youth Options

Doing Mentorship during the school day off campus

Going to work during the school day off campus and are enrolled in C.E.O. 4th block.

Homebound needs

Age of Majority is for students who have reached the age of 18 and are expected to comply in the same pre-

scribed manner even though they may act on their own behalf.

Student must complete the age of majority agreement and have it signed by his/her parent/guardian

Student must meet with an administrator to approve their age of majority

Student must understand that school board policy regarding attendance is in effect for the age of majority stu-dents

Students must understand that the BCHS attendance rules/consequences are the same for age of majority stu-dents

“Senior Privilege Option” (SPO) is a reward for seniors with high grades, excellent attendance, and appropri-

ate behavior. SPO students must attend Lancer Block.

Throughout the upcoming school year we will come together as a whole school for assemblies (Pep

Sessions, Musical Preview & Fine Arts Extravaganza). The assemblies are important BC school

events and students should only be “called out” of them for previously scheduled appoint-

ments/commitments that cannot be rescheduled. Thank you in advance for your continued support.

First Day of School! Thursday, September 1st will be the first day of school for ALL stu-

dents. This will be a full day of school for ALL Students from 7:55 a.m. to

2:12 p.m. Students should print out a new schedule before coming to

school for the first day.

Arrival and Dismissal @ BC

The arrival and dismissal times at Brookfield Central are extremely busy. If you are drop-

ping off your child or a student driver, we ask for you to be patient and considerate of others. Stu-

dents may enter BC beginning at 6:30 a.m. may sit quietly in the cafeteria of the school. Up until

7:30am students may be dropped off at the main doors (Door S1) of BC, but between 7:30am-

through the main doors. The cafeteria begins serving breakfast at 7:30 a.m. A bell will ring at

7:50 a.m. which releases students to the academic areas of the building.

School dismisses at 3:09pm (2:12pm on Thursdays). Students load onto the buses

(approximately 15) at the front entrance of the school. The buses depart from BC @ 3:17pm. Af-

ter school student pickup will be outside of doors W4, W5 and S2. From 3:09pm to 3:25pm, the

traffic pattern will be adjusted. Cars that are parked in the front of the school will exit onto

Gebhardt Road and cars that are parked in the back of the school will exit via Civic Drive and

onto Calhoun Road. Thank you in advance for helping keep BC safe!

The following pages are diagrams of the before &

after school traffic flow.

Volunteering at Central

Staff at Central appreciate the willingness of parents and other community members to volunteer their time to work with and support our students. To ensure the safety of all students, criminal background checks are required for all volunteers who may have unsupervised contact with stu-dents. Below is a link to the web site where you can read the policy and make online application for the criminal back-ground check. Please be aware that the criminal background check must be completed before volunteering at Central.

Brookfield Central PTO Brookfield Central's PTO is an organization that works together with parents, staff and the com-munity to maintain Brookfield Central's status as an exceptional school. Your PTO supports and funds

a variety of BCHS events and programs such as the Post Prom, Project Graduation, Teacher Mini-Grants (funding for non budgetary school items), Teacher Appreciation Events, Student Scholarships,

Parent Network Programming and more.

The majority of these events and programs are funded by your $25 membership dues. While at-

tending the monthly meetings and volunteering is certainly not required, these programs and events can-not take place without volunteers, and all are welcome! The meetings are held prior to the monthly Prin-

cipal Chats.

Please look for the PTO Membership form and Volunteer form online when you register for the

2016-2017 school year and the PTO will have an information table at the Picture/Parking/Locker Day (August 10th & 17th) and at 1st Term PT Conferences (September 29th). If you have any questions,

please feel free to contact Laurie Pasternak at 262-347-6910.

arts programs by encouraging audience awareness and attendance, soliciting and distributing funds for fine arts purchases, and advocating for district and community support. Your membership would help

support the BCHS fine arts programs of art, imaging, band, chorus, orchestra, and theatre. Past pur-chases have included such needed items as an imaging printer, lighting and other equipment for the

black box, re-stringing of instruments and instruments themselves. Please consider making a tax de-ductible membership contribution when you register your student(s) for the school year. You can do this through the school’s online registration or at any point by filling out a membership form. Basic mem-

bership is $25. Any amount above $25 may be designated for a specific department. If you have ques-tions or would like to know how you can become Involved in Applause, please contact Michelle
