Discovery Days Preschool, a ministry of Chapel Rock, is now enrolling students for the 2020-21 school year. As a Christ-centered preschool, they are focused on the academic, social, physical, and spiritual needs of the students. The mission of Discovery Days is to enhance a preschool child’s development and support the child’s family through prayer, encouragement, and introduction to Chapel Rock. If you have a son/daughter or grandchild that is 18 months old (by September 1) through Pre-Kindergarten, Discovery Days may be the place for them! Classes are held Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. — 1 p.m., during the months of August through May. For further information contact Director Carolyn Milkie, at 317-240-2065.

DISCOVERY DAYS ENROLLING FOR 2020-21

LEAD LINES There is a word that you need to know. It is the Hebrew word makkah (both “k’s” are pronounced). Of the 48 occurrences of makkah in the Old Testament, two-thirds of them are translated in the Greek translation of the Old Testament by the term plēgē (πληγή), from which we get the English word “plague.” The word is used with four main nuances of meaning. First, it is used literally of a “blow” or “stroke” received in a beating/whipping. Second, in certain contexts, it can mean “wound” (either literally or, as in the Prophets, figuratively). Third, it can be translated “plague.” In Old Testament times, plagues seem to have been a kind of epidemic disease (i.e., a regional pandemic) often sent as punishment for sin. Fourth and finally, the word can mean “defeat” (like, in battle). Why tell you all this? Well, apart from making you more effective students of God’s Word, I think it seems relevant to the times we find ourselves in! Some of you might have taken a serious financial “blow” or “whipping” when the stock market lost a third of its value in just a couple weeks. Others of you are dealing with a sickness or wound or have to be EXCEEDINGLY careful to NOT get sick right now. Clearly, we’re dealing with a modern-day plague. Finally, some of you are bearing the mental weight of feeling defeated already. I have good news! God does occasionally send plagues, but He specializes in stopping them and freeing our hearts from the fear of them! We’re starting a new series in April, and Easter will be part of it. It’s called “You Need to Hear This.” For a couple days last week, I got away to pray, to read the Word – just to kind of catch my breath and collect my thoughts. Through that time, the Lord led me to change up what I had planned. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve done that over my entire preaching career. We have a unique opportunity right now, to speak right to the deepest fears and biggest needs of our church and our culture’s heart. So, I went back through my notes from 20+ years of preaching, and found messages (none of which you all have heard yet) that address this unique moment we find ourselves in. Here’s what’s coming up: You Need to Hear This. . .

◼ When You Have to Hit Pause .......... (April 5) ◼ When You Didn’t See It Coming ....... (April 12)

◼ When Every Option Stinks ............... (April 19) ◼ When You Need a Sidekick ............... (April 26)

◼ When the Mission Must Succeed ... (May 3) God is going to speak to us powerfully through this time. Hang in there, watch your email, and stay connected. We’ll get through this. . .together (but you know, in groups of less than 10 and more than 6 feet apart!). God bless you all. Leading as I follow, Casey

APRIL FOOD PANTRY With the outbreak of COVID-19 and the limitations on the number of persons who can gather in one location, Chapel Rock’s Food Pantry is the only community ministry still operating. Food Pantry coordinators Andy and Kim Harris and their dedicated group of volunteers have done a remarkable job to modify our pantry into a ‘drive through’ pantry. We are still able to provide a much-needed service to the westside community. The Food Pantry remains open on the first and third Thursday each month, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. With the building being closed through Tuesday, April 7, food donations cannot be accepted at Chapel Rock through the office or the DropZone, but donations can still be made two ways! Call/text Andy (317-313-9450) or Kim (317-698-7271) and make arrangements with them or you can drop off your donations at door #10 on the following Tuesdays, March 31 and April 14, between the hours of 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

LIFE CENTERS BANQUET RE-SCHEDULED Earlier in March Life Centers had nearly 900 people registered for their upcoming banquet and it was on pace to break an attendance record. Unfortunately, given the recent events, they have postponed their annual banquet. The good news is they were able to secure a new date and retain their keynote speaker, Trey Gowdy. The new date is Friday, October 9, at the JW Marriott.

2020 NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER On Thursday, May 7, we will once again observe the National Day of Prayer here at Chapel Rock. The Chapel will be open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. (entering at door #16) for all who would like to stop in to spend time in prayer. Prayer guides will be available to you to lead you through your time before the Lord. At 7 p.m. in the Worship Center that evening Pastor Fred will lead an hour of directed prayer for the community and our nation. Join us for a powerful time of prayer and bending a knee before God.

PASTOR’S BREAKFAST & STUDY CANCELED The men’s monthly breakfast with Pastor Fred Rodkey’s message scheduled for Saturday, April 4, has been canceled. We hope to be back together on Saturday, May 2.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD YEAR-ROUND 2020! Shoeboxes make a difference! A 10-year-old boy in Angola visited a nearby village for a distribution of shoe box gifts. His parents could see in him a changed heart, so they invited the pastor of the distributing church to their home. The parents asked if the pastor could implement a Bible teaching program in their community and as a result, a church was built in that new village. All because of a shoebox!

We had planned to begin collecting items in our Operation Christmas Child bin on April 5, but that has been delayed indefinitely. You can, though, begin collecting the items mentioned below and drop off your donations when the mandates end. The following are a few reminders: ◼ ALL ITEMS MUST BE NEW. ◼ OCC will no longer accept toothpaste or candy. ◼ Specific items will be featured for donation each month (see the table below). ◼ However, any gift items are accepted at any time (only new items, please!). ◼ Handmade items such as scarves, hats, mittens, or toys are welcome! ◼ A “packing party” will take place in October to fill shoeboxes with the collected items. ◼ You and your family are also encouraged to pack shoeboxes on your own.

Keep your eyes open for sale and clearances items! If you have questions about OCC, please contact Judy Heuss.
