The Holy Father speaks… “During the Easter Vigil, we will celebrate once more the moving rite of the lighting of the Easter candle. Drawn from the “new fire”, this light will slowly overcome the darkness and illuminate the liturgical assembly. By listening to God’s word and drawing nourishment from the table of the Eucharist, may our hearts be ever more ardent in faith, hope and love. With affection and the promise of my prayers for all of you, I send you my blessing. Please do not forget to pray for me.”

THE MOST

IMPORTANT DECISION OF

YOUR LIFE

YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE. BE HOLY. HOLINESS IS THE FIRST VOCATION.

HOLINESS MEANS TRYING TO BE LIKE JESUS. ASIDE FROM YOUR DECISION TO FOLLOW JESUS, YOUR VOCATION IS LIFE’S MOST

IMPORTANT DECISION. 4 MAIN VOCATIONS—HOW IS GOD CALLING YOU

MARRIAGE, PRIESTHOOD, RELIGIOUS LIFE, SINGLE LIFE

When the time comes, you must act! Move in the direction your heart tells you,

confident that God will never send you where His grace cannot sustain you!

Lenten Regulations 2018

ABSTINENCE—All the faithful who have reached 14 years of age are required to abstain totally from meat on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent. FASTING—All the faithful between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive are bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This practice involves limiting oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food between meals. Light sustenance may also be taken on two other occasions during the day. EASTER DUTY—After they have been initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, all the faithful are bound by the obligation of receiving Holy Communion at least once a year. This precept must be fulfilled during the Easter season beginning with the First Sunday of Lent (Feb. 18) to the celebration of Pentecost (May 20). The following should also be noted: Music—The “Alleluia” is not sung or said from the beginning of Lent until the Easter Vigil. Musical instruments may be used during Lent and the Paschal Triduum to give necessary support to the singing. Decorations— The church should not be decorated with flowers during Lent. Holy Water—Holy Water is not removed from the fonts during the season of Lent. Holy Water is removed from all fonts immediately before the celebration of the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. They are refilled with water blessed at the Easter Vigil. Funeral Masses—Funeral Masses are not permitted during the Sacred Triduum. Funeral Rites during these days may make use of a Liturgy of the Word, concluding with the Rite of Farewell.
