    Award for Region 2 from theMinnesota Association of Soiland Water ConservationDistricts. Twin Eagle Dairy wasselected by Todd SWCD toreceive recognition for the ToddCounty OutstandingConservationist for 2013 andtherefore was considered for aregional award. Eight countywinners were selected as region-al winners including Twin EagleDairy. MASWCD sponsors theOutstanding Conservationist

    Award, with support from TheFarmer magazine.

    The Lunemanns received theaward for the numerous conser-vation practices installed ontheir Twin Eagle Dairy of Clarissa. They operate the 715cow dairy and farm 1200 acres of primary forage crops. Pat andJody have farmed for 30 yearsand much of the current opera-tion has been in the family since1932. The Lunemanns, havecompleted many conservationpractices on their farm toimprove livestock health anddairy efficiency while protectingand improving the naturalresources of the area. Pat andJody still find time for involve-ment in several civic organiza-tions, and Pat serves as presi-dent of the Minnesota MilkProducers Association.

    Were proud of theLunemanns for what theyvedone in conserving our naturalresources in our area, said DaleKatterhagen, supervisor and

    od of many years. Conservationpractices installed are many:manure storages - concrete andearthen, roof gutters, compostbedding storage, infiltrationponds for silage and leachaterunoff, earthen and concretediversions, feedlot abandon-ment, pond closures, nutrientmanagement practices, and afencing and seeding project toexclude livestock from a ditchsystem. The family also hostedthe 2013 Todd CountyBreakfast on The Farm whichis a popular event to teach allages about modern farmingpractices. They also hosted anExtension dairy tour in 2012and Pat gave a presentation ondairy facility energy efficiency inWadena that same year. Patparticipated in the MACFOFeedlot Conference in 2013 aspart of a panel discussion toimprove permitting processesfor feedlots.

    Animal agriculture is thebackbone of Todd Countys econ-omy and we are lucky to haveoperations like Twin EagleDairy here to provide jobs and amarket for forage crops, addedKatterhagen. There are close to1000 registered feedlots in ToddCounty producing dairy, beef,turkey, swine, and chickensmaking it one of the top countiesin Minnesota.

    y Rin Porter A break in the buildings sprinkler system dur-g the night of Dec. 11-12 caused thousands of gal-ns of water to spread through the countys Main

    Street Government Center in LongPrairie. Water pouring out of thebuildings front door was reportedlyobserved by a Long Prairie PoliceDepartment employee who calledLong Prairie Public Works.

    Long Prairie Public WorksDirector Dan Spieker said in a tele-phone interview that after he wascontacted, he went to the MainStreet Government Center todetermine the cause of the waterleak, and found it to be the result of a malfunction in the sprinkler sys-tem. He located the pipe that sup-plied water to the sprinkler systemand turned off the valve. Thisstopped any further water fromspreading through the building.

    Todd County Auditor/ TreasurerKaren Busch said in a telephoneinterview that CountyMaintenance Supervisor PeteBleess was contacted next. Heinspected the building to see what

    damage had occurred. Bleess told county officialsthat he had observed about three inches of waterin some of the offices in the building.Commissioner Rod Erickson toured the building to

    The Browerville Lions Club and the Browerville Commercial Club donated $1,193.00 to theea food shelf. The money was was raised by the organizations, and donations to the Oldashioned Christmas.
