Luncheon to FeatureCommander of 21st Cav

The spring 2011 issue of Hill Country Magazine has just been releasedwhich features Brownwood and Brown County.

The cover story focuses on Brown County being officially recognizedas a part of the Texas Hill Country by the state. The issue also gives abrief history of the area and focuses on several points of interest.

Photos of the Martin and Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum, LyricTheatre, Brown County Museum of History, Depot Civic and CulturalCenter, Lake Brownwood, Howard Payne University, and 3M are all partof the article.

In February, the Brownwood AreaChamber of Commerce launched a bold newproject designed to help members takeadvantage of sponsorship opportunities in aunique way. During the Chamber’s TotalResource Campaign (TRC), volunteers areselling sponsorship opportunities to localbusinesses for events and promotions offeredthrough the Brownwood Area Chamber ofCommerce.

The TRC is designed to give Chambermembers an array of opportunities to becomemore involved with the organization throughgreater public awareness of Chamber pro-grams, projects, and events. Over a seven-week period which began February 8, dozensof volunteers have been working in teams tohelp businesses design customized sponsor-ship plans for the entire year. Volunteersselling these sponsorships can earn cashprizes as well as an iPad and a trip to LasVegas.

TRC Chairman Bert Massey said ”I thinkfolks in Brownwood will find the TotalResource Campaign to be beneficial in meet-ing their needs.”

So far, teams have been very competitivewith the Go Gators team, and TeamKOXE/KBWD leading the way.

Several great sponsorship opportunities arestill available including presenting sponsor forthe 2011 Business Showcase, the Chamber’sShop-at-Home campaign, Christmas Underthe Stars Festival, website sponsorships, andmuch more. These sponsorship opportunitieswill not be available after March 29th!!!

Ribbon Cutting for Stewart Street StorageThe Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremo-

ny Wednesday, March 2nd for Stewart Street Storage located in Brownwood. The company provides climate controlled storage units for personal use aswell as for businesses. The indoor units are heated and cooled and availablein a variety of sizes. They also offer indoor and outdoor boat, RV, and autostorage. The facility is secure with an array of surveillance cameras to monitorthe grounds.

Maurices Celebrates Grand Opening at New LocationMaurices celebrated the relocation of their new store to Commerce Square

in Brownwood last week with a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting. The new store offers over 5000 sq ft of shopping space to help offer a wide

range of new merchandise. Maurices offers a large selection of women’sfashion accessories for sizes 1-24. They also offer several special services totheir customers.

Maurices joins Burkes Outlet and Bealls as some of the newest additions toCommerce Square in recent months giving customers more shopping choices.

Toni HillToni Hill was born in Harbor City, California.

Her mother was a native of Sweetwater and herfather was from Long Beach, CA. She moved toTexas in 1983—first to Albany and then toBrownwood. Toni is married to Leonard Hill, whois retired from 3M Company. They run a cow/calfoperation in Brown and Mills Counties.

Toni has worked for McCoy’s for 17 years,starting as a part-time cashier. Over the years, sheworked in the yard and as a delivery driver; shemoved inside to work in sales until being selectedas the Store Manager in June, 2005. Toni said,“The best thing about my job is the people that Iwork with and the customers I serve—and thefriends that I have made.” She continued, “I truly

believe that I still learn something new every day.I enjoy each day, from solving the smallest plumb-ing problem to building a new house from theground up.”

The Hills attend the Shiloh Church nearRichland Springs. Toni has two sons and two step-daughters, eight grandchildren and one greatgrandson—with another on the way. She enjoysriding horses, sewing, reading, canning and ridingmotorcycles—and watching the grandchildrengrow, especially while keeping them on weekends.Toni noted, “One of my favorite days off is work-ing with cows with Leonard.” She concluded,“When I retire, I would like to teach young kidshow to ride and the responsibility that goes withcaring for animals.”

Eric McNeeseLast year, Eric McNeese was appointed to serve

on the Chamber’s Board of Directors. That termwill expire on March 31, 2011, and now McNeesehas been re-elected to the Board for a full three-year term.

Eric McNeese was born in San Antonio. He isthe son of Larry and Judy Ehrke of Blanket andRobert and Olinda McNeese of San Antonio. Hegraduated from Early High School and from theUniversity of Texas at Austin with a BA inEconomics. He earned a Doctor of Jurisprudencefrom St. Mary's University School of Law and waslicensed to practice law in the State of Texas in2003. Eric has worked in the land title industrysince 1993 in numerous capacities (title examiner,escrow officer and general counsel).

Since 2008, he has practiced law in Brownwoodas an Attorney for Massey & West, Attorneys, andalso serves as Vice-President of The BrownCounty Abstract Company, Inc. He is a member ofthe Brown County Bar Association, theIndependent Title Agents of Texas, and the TexasLand Title Association of Texas. He is also servingas Texas Underwriting Counsel for AlliantNational Title Insurance Company. For severalyears Eric has served on the “Rates, Rules andForms Committee” and the “LegislativeCommittee” of the Texas Land Title Association.

Eric is married to Sarah Massey McNeese andhas three children; Cora, Liam, and Rory. He is amember of the First United Methodist Church ofBrownwood.

Debbie MorelockDebbie Morelock graduated from Odem High

School and then attended HPU, Stephen F. Austinand finished her degree in Holistic Nutrition with aPh.D. from Clayton College.

Debbie and her husband Don own Star of TexasBed and Breakfast. She teaches yoga and doesnutrition counseling. Debbie serves on theTourism Advisory Committee for the Chamber andis also on the Board for the Texas Bed & Breakfast

Association. Debbie serves on the MilitaryAffairs Board for the Chamber and is part of theMilitary Family Support Group locally. She hasbeen involved with the Brownwood Reunion for10 years and is a Big Sister with Big Brothers BigSisters.

Debbie loves to camp, fly fish, kayak and gar-den, and spend as much time in and around TexasRivers as possible.
