Managing the BTO Selection Meeting

Evidence Essential Skill and Knowledge Submission and Scoring• Capture evidence in specific terms – use at least 2 timely &

strong examples

• Make sure the examples link to the skill / Knowledge that is being assessed & cover all elements of the skill

• Remember; evidence gathering and scoring is a discussion with the aim of coming to a common agreement on each score

• Clear & jointly agreed evidence will increase an individual's ownership of the outcome & will lesson the likelihood of appeals

Examples of Clear Evidence

4 Exceeds the required skills/area of knowledge

Interpersonal skills to manage potential resource conflicts across BTGS and BTO units

She is strong in this area. She presents clear and concise information in a logical way to her customers. As mentioned previously, she  'owns' issues and her preferred method of dealing with these issues is one of picking up the phone, rather than the usual e-mail method which can cause delay and misunderstanding. An example of this is a recent issue with an order manager who re-located from Hungary to the UK, who the RD wished to retain due to key skills. Due to HR restrictions it was not possible to employ as BT FTE, so she investigated different options and presented to the relevant parties. The outcome was the individual was able to be retained as a contractor so not losing key skills required in the unit. She has also received many 'thank you' from across the global teams for her contribution to resolving a huge variety of resourcing issues. NOTE : easy to see why scored ‘4’ & why exceeds

2 Partial match with required skill and/or area of knowledge

Customer Service: Works to proactively understand, agree & deliver customer needs in line with business priorities & policies. Ability to effectively negotiate & agree scope whilst managing customer expectations

Starting to play a role in the delivery of the following work: HE, FTTC, LLU and EBD. He lacks experience but has been involved in some of the simpler SNAP jobs. He has had to deal with Customers to agree the proper scope of jobs, for example a recent fibre job where he checked if an existing cable runway could be used which saved the Business the cost of new runway. He is leading on 21CN reservations for the Team, and manages all the dates to ensure he deliver these on time.NOTE : easy to see why scored ‘2’ & why only partial match with skill

• If the individual does not fully meet the skill criteria;• give a clear explanation of where the skills gap is

• If an individual exceeds the skill criteria; • capture why and provide examples

Eamples of Unclear Evidence

4 Exceeds the required skills/area of knowledge

Demonstrates the ability to provide simple sites for Fnet 5000 on Censys and Hosted Voice Manager.

He has all the skills required and considerable experience in this field being CS2K trained and MOD vetted.

NOTE : Not clear why ‘4’ score, no evidence provided3 Full match with

required skill and/or area of knowledge

Able to monitor and pro-actively investigate any failures, challenging poor supplier or BT internal performance to ensure customer satisfaction is achieved.

She has provided copies of emails chasing delivery dates and PODs etc.

NOTE : Not clear why ‘3’ score, does not provide evidence

2 Partial match with required skill and/or area of knowledge

Delivery Performance: Ensures plans are compatible with future building strategies and engineering policy and delivered to agreed Time, Cost and Quality targets. Manages the performance of contractors to meet business requirements - highlighting issues and ensuring no wastage. Ensures all relevant Health & Safety regulations are considered and met in the planning process i.e. from the installation methods to the Operation and Maintainability of the installed plant

She has been very successful with her College qualifications and has adopted her learning into the working environment.  She has shadowed a very experienced member of the planning team now for three years and has gained invaluable experience in many areas of contract and D/L delivery.  She is aware of the business needs and works to progress projects to both cost and quality standards.  She has been taught the H&S requirements of the job and has her own IOSH passport.  She is keen to deliver the product to fit the needs of the customer. As mentioned above she has an excellent mentor in contract work, covering AC/DC, UPS and cooling solutions.  She has a development plan in place and is following this in order to gain the knowledge levels of his team mates.

NOTE : Not clear why ‘2’ score, does not tell why it is only a partial match. No improvement points
