btc Newsletter Spring, 2017
I have been procrastinating writing my president's message because I don't want to say goodbye. My husband's job is relocating our family to North Carolina in a few weeks. While we are fortunate that he still has a job we are deeply sad to be leaving an area and community we love. We were new to Walnut Creek when my older son, Nathan, was born and I immediately joined three new mom's groups. Partly because I was scared to be home alone with a baby, but also to find "my people.” Being in a group with moms who were having a similar experience was a life-saver to me. They were my community. In my opinion, we are not meant to walk through this life alone and we need each other to survive and thrive. Community and the importance of it is
President’s Message
the basis for boys team charity and one
of the main reasons Dawn and I started the Diablo League. Another reason why we formed btc,
Diablo League was to teach our boys
the importance of kindness and giving back. When I think of people who embody kindness, Dawn Schadek is at the top of my list. She has lots of friends (pretty sure her dance card is full) but has always managed to make me feel like one of her best friends. There would have been no way I could have or would have wanted to start btc
Diablo League without her.
Dawn has kindly and bravely agreed to be president for 2017-2018. While I hate to think of being replaced, we are looking for a president-elect to work alongside Dawn. I will miss all of you and wish you the best. — Stacy Hovey

Warmest wishes for the Hovey family - Our founding Co-President, Stacy Hovey, will be stepping down this year due to her family relocating out-of-state. btc Diablo would not be in existence without Stacy, and we thank her for all she’s
done to make our chapter such a success—including staying on the Board as our Parliamentarian. We are now in need of a President-Elect, hopefully from the 2023 class. Please contact Dawn Schadek, President, for more information.

My Experience at Diamond Terrace It was fun and easy mostly they were pretty easy and the BINGO games are very fun they have their funny little comments. When someone wins a game of BINGO they wouldn’t be very happy about it. And the lady that was calling out the numbers would always say, “good year” when the number she called was the year that they were born. Overall it was a time to remember and I had a lot of fun being up and playing BINGO. — Cole Schadek (2020)

Philanthropy Spotlight: Diamond Terrace
BINGO night at Diamond Terrace
Diamond Terrace provides a range of activities for its residents to come together for a bit of fun and conversation. Reid and I joined them on BINGO Night where the boys wrote the called numbers on a white board and assisted players in marking numbers. Another night the boys helped set up and serve a special chili dinner. It was nice to see our teens tap into their gentler side through a slower pace of service. — Giselle Stein
It's incredible that btc Diablo can
help our community in such a wide spectrum and I love the fact that we are playing BINGO with a 99-year-old and also sharing our love and energy with young children. —Dawn Schadek

I volunteered at SHELTER, Inc. in Martinez. I got to hang out and play with kids that are less privileged while
their parents were in meetings. The kids were very thankful I was there, and happy that they had someone to
play with. I plan on going back to help because I feel spending time with those kids makes a difference. —
