Spear- headed by Executive Director Su- san Schoellkopf, a North Buffalo resident and na- tive of Buffalo, the BEC and BTRC provide hun- dreds of children a unique opportunity to learn from horses and experience the love that stems and blos- soms from being an eques- trian. The program exponen- tially grows with each passing year, doubling the number of students and serving the Buffalo com- munity. The BTRC has four Professional Associa- tion of Therapeutic Horse- manship International (PATH Intl.) instructors, who work to develop pro- grams for mentally and emotionally impaired and learning disabled and de- velopmen- tally chal- lenged children from 6 to 16 years of age. The BTRC is the only indoor riding facility uniquely located in the city of Buffalo, and has been the site of the thera- peutic riding program for 14 years. Schoellkopf has dedicated her life to the BEC and the BTRC, pro- viding children with the opportunity to ride, many whom may never have had that chance. The facility’s location in Buffalo is ideal for many of the inner-city kids to take a bus for their riding lessons. According to Market Manager Patricia Banning, this will be a “soft” opening since it is still early in the season. A Grand Opening Celebration is planned for July with music and activi- ties when more vendors will be available and fresh pro- duce is in full season. Ven- dor applications are still being accepted. Fresh produce is just one of the many offerings found at the North Buffalo Farmers Market, which opens June 19th. Summer Fun Club gym games, gameroom activities, movies and much more are all part of the program, which is limited to 75 children. Program applications may be picked up at the North Buffalo Communi- ty Center, located at 203 Sanders Rd., or call (716) 874-6133, Ext. 18 for fur- ther information. The necktie is such a popular Father’s Day Gift that it has unoffi- cially become the official Father’s Day Gift. Some even take the necktie to be sym- bolic of Father’s Day due to their history of associa- tion with the day in the same way as flowers are associated with Mother’s Day. Every year children vie with each other to give the most stylish tie to their dad. Retailers make the most of this traditional and emotional attachment of the necktie with Father’s Day to sell lat- est designs and introduce new styles. Happy Father’s Day!
