All batteries contain the same basic components – two electrodes, the anode and the cathode, two current collectors, and a separator between the two electrodes. The separator is very important, because it keeps the electrodes from touching each other and causing a short circuit. Electricity is forced to take the long way around, which is how we are able to power our devices.
