What are Communities?

• Private communities — where constituents can connect, collaborate, and communicate in a secure, trusted setting

• Public Communities – allow individuals visiting your website to view discussions, blogs, etc. without the need to log in

• Collection of content items (iParts)

Community Creation

• Must be full user with system admin role• Create unique community name• Select layout (default or custom to you)• Select default website (for notifications)• Can add graphic for the community• Provide a description for the community• Add Administrators

Community Features

• Discussion Forums• Announcements• Blogs• Wikis• Resource Library• Roster• Recent Activity

Community Features

Discussion Forums

• Unlimited number of forums per community• Replies that are threaded with the rest of the topic

discussion• Posts can be reported as Inappropriate• Subscribe (Follow) entire forums or specific topics• Forums can be moderated (optional)

Community Features

Announcements

• Allow community administrators to broadcast messages to all community subscribers and members

• Optionally allow replies to the announcement• Ability to include an attachment to these emails

Blogs

• Individuals can create Blogs• Linked, dated archive to previous blog entries• Subscribe for email notification of updates for one or all

Wikis

• Supports collaborative authoring of Wiki articles• Articles can have multiple authors, with online identity

provided by iMIS• Subscribe for email notifications for any new or changed

articles• Optionally, can assign Wiki Authors in the community or

allow any member access to create/update Wiki articles

Resource Library

• Add documents, videos, audio files and image files• Maximum file size is adjustable• Folders aid organization and security controls• Only Community Administrators can upload files• Ability to control file extensions allowed in Libraries

(global setting for all communities)

Community Features

Roster/Participants

• Displays a list of community members who have “subscribed” (following) the Community

• Administrators can add members to the Roster /Participants list individually (auto-subscribe)

• Members of the community always have an option to Unsubscribe to the community (no longer receive emails) without impact on their ability to access the community via public site

Recent Activity

• The Recent Activity area offers a view of every content item that has been added or updated in reverse chronological order.

• It is available in some of the community portal layouts (depending on IMIS version)

• Subscribing to the Recent Activity is an easy way to ensure you receive an email notification for every content addition or update across the community.

Community Layouts

• IMIS Provides a set of default Layouts for your communities

• Don’t edit the ASI default layouts – use cloned versions. (IMIS 20 standard layouts are locked.)

• Clone the layout and adjust to remove features/parts not wanted for certain communities

• Move parts around in the display• Select your new community layout in the Community

creation/setup

Community Administration

Community Administrators comprise a team that takes care of developing and maintaining a given community.

• broadcasting announcements• managing files in the resource library• adding and managing members of the community• assigning moderators and wiki authors• defining forums• deleting forums, blogs, and wikis• managing inappropriate post reporting

Community Access

This area specifies the member access settings to the

community based either on a preconfigured security set or

specific roles, groups, or users.

Use a preconfigured security set –Specifies a set of permissions for accessing objects. Each security set contains a predefined access list and permissions (Full Control, Read, Add, Delete, Edit) that remain constant.

Make this available to –Specifies the Specific Roles, Specific Groups, or Specific Users that may have access to the community
