    The Mission of the Church

    I. THE MISSION

    A. Key scripture for us to review:

    1. The call of Abram.

Now the Lord said to Abram, Go from your country and your kindred andyour fathers house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of youa great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that youwill be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonorsyou I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.(Genesis 12:13 ESV)

    2. To the people of Israel.

Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earthis mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.(Exodus 19:56 ESV)

    3. The call to be priests.

and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of thedead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freedus from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his Godand Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. (Revelation 1:56 ESV)

    4. To the disciplesto us.

And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earthhas been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy

Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. Andbehold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.(Matthew 28:1820 ESV)

And he said to them, Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to thewhole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, butwhoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs willaccompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons;they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands;and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay theirhands on the sick, and they will recover.(Mark 16:1518 ESV)

He said to them, It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Fatherhas fixed by his own authority But you will receive power when the HolySpirit has come upon you, and you will be mywitnesses in Jerusalemand in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

    (Acts 1:78 ESV)

    B. Our mission is to whom?

    1. Jerusalem: The people you choose to live with.

    2. Judea: The people you choose to visit.

    3. Samaria: The people you choose to avoid.

    4. Ends of the Earth: The people everywhere else.

    II. MINISTER ON A MISSION

    A. Every follower of Jesus is a minister on a mission.

    1. Your mission begins when you receive His Spirit.

    2. The mission has a Church.
