ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT PROCESS – WELLINGTON STREET

The Environmental Assessment for the Wellington Street Grade Separation will be undertaken as an Addendum to the Barrie Rail Corridor Expansion Transit Project Assessment Process (completed October 2017).

Scheduled to begin in approximately 2019.

Residents and businesses along the study area will be contacted upon commencement.

What Are We Assessing?

Natural Environment

• Terrestrial, aquatic habitat and species

• Species of conservation concern

• Sensitive areas and features• Stormwater Management

Socio-Economic Environment

• Land Use• Property• Air Quality• Noise and Vibration• Traffic and Transportation• Utilities

Cultural Environment

• Archaeological resources• Built Heritage resources• Cultural Heritage landscapes

GRADE SEPARATION – ROAD UNDER RAIL CONCEPT

In this concept, the separation is an underpass.

The train runs at street-level, and all other traffic runs underneath.

Structure would be designed wide enough to accommodate four lanes of traffic, two in each direction.

This is only a concept and subject to change based on public and municipal input during the EA process.

AURORA COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE (CAC)

• A working group made up of local residents, elected officials, Town staff, and Metrolinx staff

• Focused on the Wellington Street Grade Separation

• Members give input on design and details for the grade separation

• Open to including pedestrian connections in Aurora as a central topic of discussion

• CAC works with Metrolinx to define engagement process – Terms of Reference, number of meetings, etc.
