Bulletin 19th July 2019

Dear Parents/Carers

I cannot believe how quickly the year has flown by! Thank you for all of your continued support this year and

we look forward to seeing you again in September.

Y6 TRIP TO FRANCE

Our Y6 cohort were an absolute delight to take to France last week – there were lots of laughs and

enjoyment every single day! Thank you to Mr Jordan, Mr Farrer and Mrs Wilding for being such great group

leaders and contributing to our fun!

BUCKET FILLING

Luke J Yr 5 has been especially helpful since Mum has had her leg in plaster, he has been doing more

housework, tidying and clearing away.

Well done to Sam Q, Fintan H and Matthew J for making Ollie so happy by clubbing together during the

French trip and buying him a gift and card as he wasn’t able to attend and was terribly upset he couldn’t go to

France. They clearly have such a fantastic friendship group and have been so thoughtful.

E-SAFETY

Five useful articles for parents to help keep their children safe online over the summer

Please find below some help for parents to engage with their child's online activities over the summer holidays.

These articles have been kindly reproduced from the thinkuknow.co.uk website, created by education programme from the National Crime Agency’s CEOP Command

1. Gaming: what parents and carers need to know https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/articles/gaming/

Many children will be spending time gaming online over the summer holidays. This article explores the

different elements of gaming with a particular focus on how it can be used by offenders but focusing on what

parents can do to support their child while gaming.

2. Sharing pictures of your child online https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/articles/Sharing-pictures-of-your-children

Lots of parents love sharing photos of their children with friends and family, particularly when they are on

holiday or starting the new school year. A recent report found that 42% of young people reported that their

parents had done this without asking their permission. Our article helps parents to protect their child while staying social.

3. Keeping your under 5s safe online https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/articles/keeping-your-under-five-safe-online

Whether it's watching videos, playing games on their devices or talking to Alexa - today's under 5s are

spending more time online. In this article we look at the benefits of children accessing the internet, and share

advice about how parents can make sure their child has a safe experience online.

4. Live streaming: responding to the risks https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/articles/live-streaming-responding-to-the-risks

Many children enjoy live streaming as it can be used to showcase talent, develop communication skills and

create identity. Our article helps parents to understand why children love it, what the risks can be, and how

they can help their child stay safe if they are live streaming.

5. Using parental controls

https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/articles/Parental-controls

Parental controls are a great tool for helping to protect children but should not replace open and honest

conversations with children about their life online. Share these tips on how to use parental controls effectively.

SWIMMING TEACHER

We will be looking for a new swimming teacher for the Autumn term –

this is likely to be on Monday or Friday afternoons from 1pm – 2pm for

lessons plus an additional 0.5 hour for preparation and assessment each

week. Please contact the school office if you are interested and have the

appropriate qualifications.

GOVERNOR THANK YOU

Our governors do an amazing job – half termly meetings, strategic plan

monitoring and a whole host of other volunteer jobs which often go

unnoticed. A big thank you goes to them all for their hard work and

dedication this year. A special thank you also goes to Mrs Kissun-Gray

who, although she doesn’t look old enough, has been a parent governor for

many, many years! She has stepped down this term but has been a fabulous

governor – chairing and vice-chairing meetings and even appointing me as Headteacher back in 2013! If any

parents are interested in being a governor, more information will follow in the Autumn term.

QUIZ NIGHT AND UGANDA

Thank you to Mrs Rose for hosting our Quiz Night a couple of weeks ago (ably assisted by Mr Rose) – her

final one before moving down to the coast! What will we do without her risqué sense of humour? Sadly, I was

not in the winning team…. congratulations go to the winning team pictured below.
