THE 17th SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST SEPTEMBER 15, 2013

Prelude “In Thee is Gladness” J.S. Bach Welcome and Announcements Confession and Forgiveness P: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen P: God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may confess our sin, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. C: Amen P: You may kneel for confession. Most merciful God, C: we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen P: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen

The Apostles’ Creed - Page 105 I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again, he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

The Prayers of the Church

Offering Offertory “Amazing Grace" J. Schrader Good News Singers Hymn #184 Congregation Offertory “Let the Vineyards” (ELW) Let the vineyards be fruitful, Lord, and fill to the brim our cup of blessing. Gather a harvest from the seeds that were sown, that we may be fed with the bread of life. Gather the hopes and dreams of all; unite them with the prayers we offer. Grace our table with your presence, and give us a foretaste of the feast to come.

SPEAKER SYSTEM for the hearing impaired is available. Speak to one of the ushers. OUR HYMN BOARDS show the hymn numbers being sung today. They are found in the back portion of the Evangelical Lutheran Worship, the rose-colored book. The front portion of the book contains the liturgies and resources for prayer and is noted by page numbers at the bottom of each page. PLEASE FILL OUT a visitor or member card found in the pews and place the card in the offering plate. We are blessed to have Christian friends from other places and congregations visiting at worship today. IN HOLY COMMUNION we believe that Christ is truly present in the bread and wine forgiving our sins. We welcome you to such a table of presence and forgiveness. Martin Luther said: “That person is well prepared and worthy (to receive Communion) who believes these words, ‘given and shed for you for the remission of sins’. If you cannot drink the wine, it is appropriate to receive just the bread, or just touch the glass of wine to one’s lips, also glasses of white grape juice are placed in the middle of the tray. Younger children are invited to come forward to receive a blessing.

CHILDREN’S SONG: Jesus Loves Me! –traditional

Jesus loves me, this I know, for the bible tells me;

Little one to him belong, they are weak but he is strong.

Refrain: Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, Yes, Jesus loves me, the bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me he who died heaven’s gate to open wide; He will wash away my sin, let his little child come in. (Refrain)

Jesus loves me he will stay close beside me all the way; When at last I come to die, he will take me home on high. (Refrain)
