BY THE WAY ….

• Today, the Second Sunday of Easter, is also known by the title, Divine Mercy Sunday. This day is especially dear to those who are devotees of the Divine Mercy Devotion. Saint John Paul II granted a plenary indulgence on this day to all who have approached Confession and Eucharist, and pray the Creed and the Our Father for the intentions of the Holy Father.

This afternoon, our neighbor parish, St. Catherine's in Glen Rock, will sponsor Divine Mercy Devotions. The schedule is as follows: 3 :00 PM Procession with the Blessed Sacrament to the Divine Mercy Shrine

3:15·4:15 PM Divine Mercy Holy Hour 4:15·5:15 PM Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament

5:15 PM Veneration of the relic of Saint Faustina Kowalska All are invited to this Divine Mercy Sunday devotion.

• This past Monday, filled with Paschal joy, I wandered down to the school cafeteria, where I knew that the eggplant cooking for The Feast was underway. To my delight, there were some fifty volunteers of all ages working on the eggplant - the largest contingent of Feast cooks in memory. There were so many that the cooks were able to move on to meatballs even before Noon! That bodes well for the 36th Annual Feast which is only nine weeks away.

• The annual Novena in honor of our patron saint, Saint Anthony of Padua, will begin on Tuesday, April 12 at 7:30 P.M.

• I will be leading a 13-day Faith Vacation this Fall to Southern Spain, including Toledo, Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga and Gibralter. The price is $3,698. For more information and flier, call the rectory.

• As we move into Spring, many people are involved in the planting of gardens and beds of flowers. The following is a Blessing for a Garden.

God, from the very beginning of time you commanded the earth to bring forth vegetation and fruit of every kind You provide the sower with seed and give bread to eat. Grant, we pray, that this land, enriched by your bounty and cultivated by human hands, may be fertile with abundant crops. Then your people, enriched by the gifts of your goodness, will praise you unceasingly now and for the ages unending. We ask this through Christ our Lord Amen.

• Some random reflections from Holy Week:

Father Ray

At rehearsal early on Thursday evening for the Mass of the Lord's Supper, the high school altar servers informed me that they want varsity jackets;

During decorating on Good Friday night, Matt Michalski helped me unwrap the new Paschal Candle. His question about the presence of the Greek letter Omega on the candle led to a great discussion on the mystery of Christian symbolism, especially during the

Holy Saturday afternoon saw a marked increase in the number of folks of Eastern European descent coming out for the blessing of the food baskets;

The Hawthorne Police did a great job of closing Diamond Bridge Avenue before the Easter Vigil, allowing the crowds to fill the street in front of the church for the blessing of the fire;

I watched the Easter Vigil at Saint Peter's in Rome with Pope Francis. Thanks to the Jager Family, we have a better Easter Fire than Saint Peter's Basilica;

Father Roberto's mother, Maria Torres, did a great job fabricating two new "white robes" which we used to clothe the newly-baptized at the Easter Vigil;

Father Roberto and I agreed that we will no longer offer an 11 :00 AM Mass in the gym on Easter; despite the appeal of the time, people would rather be in the church on Easter;

To all who helped in any way over the course of the Sacred Triduum celebrations, to all who prayed with us during the feasts, thank you, and Happy Easter!

FAITH FORMATION

SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER First Reading: Acts 5:12-16 The people held the apostles in great esteem and brought sick people to them to be healed. Although some were afraid to be known, the number of Jesus' followers continued to grow steadily.

Second Reading: Revelation 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19 John depicts a vision of lamp-stands of gold and one like the Son of Man in a robe with a sash of gold. This apparition told John he had nothing to fear and then described himself as one who was dead but now lived again. He then instructed John to record any other visions he might have.

Gospel: John 20:19-31 Jesus appeared to the disciples and breathed on them saying, "Receive the Holy Spirit." He gives them the power to forgive people's sins or hold them accountable. Thomas, who was not present, refused to believe Jesus had appeared until he came to them once more. Jesus told Thomas to believe and added, "Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."

Join us in praying our annual novena in honor of our patron St. Anthony beginning Tuesday April 12th, and continuing each Tuesday evening through June 9th, at 7:30 PM.

Religious Education

Ministries & Organizations

Prayer Group will not meet this Monday, at 7 PM in the chaplaincy center. Thank You!

We're looking for a few good Catholic men. We meet every 1st and 3rd Wednesday at 7:30PM at the St. An-thony’s School Library. If you are interested in joining the Knight's please contact Kevin Duffy at 201-956-3272. The Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society are two long-time organizations for men in our parish. Both groups are in need of rejuvenation. Both groups have long played an active role in many aspects of the life of our parish, often providing muscle and money for many different projects of outreach efforts. But in order to continue to participate at that level, they need the energy and the talents of a new generation of Catholic men. The history of the Knights of Columbus, has been a long and glorious chapter in the life of the American Church and the Universal Church.
