  • FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK: Dear Friends,

WISH YOU ALL HAPPY NEW YEAR- 2015 January indicates a new beginning and also it is time to analyse the past year. January is our Awareness Month. Awareness in Rotary means to create a self-understanding about the values of this great institution we belong to. To most people, a volunteer who serves the underprivileged sections of our society is someone who contributes time in helping others with no expectation. I believe volunteering of this nature provides rich dividends. In fact, helping others is as beneficial for the donor as it is for the recipient. This realization has grown stronger, after being a part of Rotary. Serving others is a stress busting exercise that takes care of our emotional well-being. If we are emotionally strong, it definitely has a positive effect on our physical health as well. Rotary Bangalore Vidyapeeta is in its infancy stage, but it will grow bigger day-by-day. You can keep track of its growth through its Facebook page or join the club (if you have not joined yet) to gain the fulfilling experience of nurturing it in its formative years.

MONTHLY SPECIAL JANUARY - ROTARY AWARENESS MONTH Rotary's avenues of community services are vast and countless and their depth is beyond our imagination. Yet the ideals and ideologies of Rotary are spelt out by various competent leaders from different angles. And to serve the purpose, the officials concerned have provided various ways and means to gather through knowledge about Rotary. But it is not sufficient if the Rotarians alone gain the knowledge of Rotary principles but they should impart their knowledge to others also and the success of Rotary depends on how the Rotarians share their Rotary knowledge to create an awareness of Rotary in the minds of the people around us. Rotary has designated each month of the year to contemplate its principles and the month of January is earmarked as "Rotary Awareness Month" for extending Rotary awareness among the Rotarians and their family members, their partners in Community services like Kinderact, Interact, Rotaract, RCC, Inner Wheel Clubs and so on including the general public. We, the Rotarians should set an example in maintaining ethical standards in our various walks of life and we have to dedicate ourselves to serve the community above self without selfish motives or vested interests considering our occupation or life itself as an opportunity to serve the society. Every Rotarian's role is to interpret Rotary to the public and to be sensitive to their needs and perceptions and bring them to club's attention. Public understanding and appreciation provide a favourable environment in which the club can thrive and prosper. Rotary International says: "Celebrate Rotary Awareness Month by training members on Rotary history, programmes and how to raise awareness of your club's projects among your community. Or, ask members to share a personal story or experience that they have had because of Rotary. Every Rotarian will have a Rotary story that can be educational and inspiring. The beginning of a new year with January as the Rotary Awareness Month is a good opportunity to renew inspiration for the rest of the Rotary year." So, let us celebrate this month by exploiting every opportunity to understand Rotary Themes and Mottos, to explore possibilities and find out ways and means of how the Rotary programmes can be implemented successfully for the benefit of the community, to make the public aware of Rotary programmes and projects, to involve them in our community activities, to create better public image about Rotary services so that the society at large will realize the necessity of Rotary's existence paving the way for the Rotarians to uphold the prestigious role of Rotary which always advocate for international understanding, goodwill and peace through its ideal service. Let us re-dedicate ourselves for the cause of

    Rotary.

Our Goal is Global Polio Eradication! INDIA IS FOLIO FREE

But We are not safe till the WORLD IS POLIO FREE.

Govt of India has decided to continue with the NIDs for another

3 years till our neighbouring countries are free from polio.

18th Jan and 22nd Feb are the NID days.

WHY DO WE HAVE TO CONTINUE IMMUNIZATION? One person infected with polio is all it takes to start the spread

of polio to others if they are not protected.

    TO REFLECT AND ACT

There is a legend of a man who was lost in the desert, dying of thirst. He stumbled on until he came to an abandoned house. Outside the dilapidated, windowless, weather beaten, deserted shack was a pump. He stumbled forward and began pumping furiously, but no water came from the well. Then he noticed a small jug with a cork at the top and a note written on the side: "You have to prime the pump with water, my friend. And fill the jug again before you leave." He pulled out a cork and saw that the jug was full of water. Should he pour it down the pump? What if it didn't work? All of the water would be gone. If he drank the water from the jug, he could be sure he would not die of thirst. But to pour it down the rusty pump on the flimsy instruction written on the outside of the jug? Something from inside told him to follow the advice and choose the risky decision. He proceeded to pour the whole jug of water down the rusty old pump and furiously pumped up and down. Sure enough, the water gushed out. He had all he needed to drink. He filled the jug again, corked it and added his own words beneath the instructions on the jug: "Believe me, it really works. You have to give it all away before you can get anything back."
