Issued or Guaranteed by the United States, July 31, 1943

The following tables present summary data from the Treasury survey, as ofJuly 31, 19'+3i of the ownership of securities Issued or guaranteed by theUnited States. The large commercial and savings banks and Insurance companiescovered In the survey account for approximately 95 percent of the holdings ofUnited States Government and Government-guaranteed securities held by all banks andInsurance companies In the United States.

A regrouping of Insurance companies was reflected for the first time In theTreasury survey as of June 30, I943 which appeared In the August Issue of the"Treasury Bulletin". Because of this regrouping, data as of June 30, and July 3I,19^3 on life Insurance companies and on fire, casualty, and marine Insurancecompanies should not be compared with similar data for prior months. Revisions ofthe earlier figures will be published In a forthcoming Issue of the "TreasuryBulletin" .
