Sept. 21, 2014 - 25th Sunday in Ordinary TimeThe Ways of the Kingdom
Isa 55:6-9 God’s ways are not our ways. Psalm 145 The Lord is near to all who call uponhim. Phil 1:20c-24. 27a In life or in death, Christ is every-thing. Matt 20:1-16a The last will be first, and the first will be last.
The Gospel parable of the work-ers illustrates that things haven’t changed that much in 2,000years. The dreadful condition ofcasual labor in Jesus’ time isstill very much the same today. Every morning you can findcrowds of undocumented work-ers waiting near home-
improvement stores and otherknown pickup areas where they
can be hired by the hour, the job or the day. Some
days no one hires them. They starve. Our Christianfaith and our Catholic catechism say it is our duty towelcome the foreigner out of charity and respect forthe human person. The U.S. Conference of Catho-lic Bishops supports comprehensive immigrationreform. We must reform in order to welcome legallythose who have risked their lives to work to supporttheir families. -- Dc. Dick Folger
