Screen CoatingA lack of stencil thickness is the number one fail point for many printers. If you cannot feel the image area on the substrate side of the screen, ink will not lay down properly.

Emulsion Over Mesh (EOM) is the emulsion thickness on the substrate side of the mesh in relation to the mesh. If the EOM is too low, it will prevent the necessary seal for image details. If too high, ink will be difficult to transfer.

Use the round scoop edge to apply a proper coat of emulsion. Start with the substrate side, and finish on the print side. If using the sharp edge scoop, be careful as it can scrape off too much emulsion. Finally, dry the screens horizontally with the print side down.

Proper Mesh SelectionMesh selection has a significant effect on coverage and image detail.

Mesh size is the number of threads per square inch. The higher the number, the finer the threads and screen holes. 110 is most commonly used for underbases.

Select a lower mesh count if the project requires a heavy underbase. If the design has significant detail, a higher mesh may be needed.

Flash Temperatures and Time With the proper ink thickness, only a quick flash is needed. Most white inks will flash at 265 degrees in about 1.5 to 3 seconds, leading to faster production times.

Cure Time and TemperatureAlways reference the ink manufacturers recommendations for different material types. If an ink is low cure, it can cure at a much lower temperature than standard inks. Do your research and always test your curing temperatures for the best results.
