PERFORMING

ARTS AT THE

CANBERRA

THEATRE

Acacia Concert - Festival of Instrumental Music

Bungendore Public School’s 25-strong recorder club has performed in the Acacia

Concert of the Festival of Instrumental Music at the Opera House, an extravaganza that

put more than one thousand public school students on stage every night for four nights.

Every year, public school students from across NSW join together to celebrate musical

excellence in a series of four concerts in the Festival of Instrumental Music for Combined

Recorder and Combined String Ensembles.

Bungendore’s students worked with professional conductors and performed specifically

chosen and commissioned musical pieces: Six Ribbons, Marche Militaire and Krasniye

Saposhki.

Children were accompanied by their principal Mrs Narelle Lloyd, their recorder teachers

Mrs Margie Lawson and Ms Robynne Prosser and family members.

“Twelve months of commitment to practice, of their chosen instrument, led rise to an

unforgettable experience of performing with professional musicians and hundreds of

other primary school students to a sell-out audience,” Ms Prosser said.

“This year we built upon our successes from previous years. Lachlan Elderton has won

the opportunity to present a prestigious vocal solo performance at the Mimosa Concert

to be held in September, where a select group of recorder players from BPS will also be

performing a group item with other South Coast students.”

Victoria Variety Club Bash visits Bungendore

report by the Bungendore Gazette team

Bungendore Public School students gave a rowdy

welcome to the Victoria Variety Club Bash teams

this week.

More than 15 crazy cars pulled up at the Mick Sherd

Oval in Bungendore to meet with Bungendore

schoolkids, handing out goodies including

handballs, “trauma bears”, hats and lollipops.

There was also a handover of money to the school

to be donated to a charity of the school’s choice, Multiple Sclerosis Australia. The Victoria

Variety Club Bash car teams began their journey on August 18 in Melbourne and will finish

on Fraser Island, Queensland on August 26.

Among the most popular of the

vehicles to arrive in Bungendore

was a light grey ZD Fairlane

decorated in a Jamaican theme,

topped with a camel. The drivers

were dressed as Rastafarians and

very friendly.

There was also a red Ford LTD topped with a lawn

mower that a couple of Year 5 students were

allowed to climb up and sit on!

Other cars included: a white Ford Fairlane that had

a Where's Wally theme, a Blues Brothers (with a sister

too) themed 1974 Dodge Monaco, a black

Mercedes Benz called Wonderland with ‘Alice in

Wonderland’ theme, light tan Mercedes Benz with

‘La tour de Eiffel’ (the Eiffel tower) theme, a Sesame

Street themed 1987 Ford stretch limousine and a

Shaun the Sheep car that made bleating noises and was a Ford LTD.

Thank you to all the people who

came along and thank you to all

the people who made and

presented these cars.

Bungendore had a great time!
