Burden CAn be denoted in VA or inOhms.Consider that to a PTsecondary we have a relay connectedto it.Now the Totalimpedance on the PT secondary isgiven by Zt = Zsec + Zlead+ Zrelay.where the Zsec is theimpedance of the PTSecondary,Zlead be the impedance ofthe lead between the PTsecondary and the Relay,Zrelay bethe Impedance of the relay.

Now from the VA capacity of thePT,under normal operatingcondition of the PT,calculate thesecondary current, Isec.

burden interms of VA can be obtainedas Zt*Isec.Burden interms of Ohms can be hadfrom - RatedVA/((Isec)*(Isec))

As Burden increases beyond theprescribed value, theaccuracy decreases below theallowable value.
